I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Macy's has many opportunities for anyone who wants to work hard in customer service. As a sales associate I love who I work with and what I do. The money is not great but with commission and you have to really sell to make commission, its not bad! If you do your job you are left alone. Don't make waves!

    Cons

Standing all day. Restrooms are usually dirty, lunch room is depressing.

    Advice to Management

    Stores are old and dirty.

    Pros

Relax job setting that you control your income, your like your own boss and you make lasting connecting with a prestigious clientele. You get paid weekly and make incentives on alot of different aspects of the metrics.

    Cons

It's a cut throat setting and it has a drawl versus commission pay style not everyone will appreciate that pay style.

    Advice to Management

Management sometimes (specific to individual) need to be more of a leader than trying to be a boss.

    I worked at Macy's part-time

    Pros

They have very flexible schedules and you get long breaks if you've worked your 8hrs. You learn a lot while working there and you also learn how to multitask a lot. Also, the break room, at least where I worked, was cool and most managers are very nice and have a lot of patience.

    Cons

Training is really bad. They make you watch videos for four days and then leave you alone to figure out everything since they assume you've learned everything from watching some videos. Also, not every employee helps you out and some of them tend to be very impatient, so that doesn't help either.

    Advice to Management

You should really improve training. It would help new employees a lot, specially those (such as myself) who have never worked in retail.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Technology-wise - one of the most updated retailers
Great stepping stone to move into other companies

    Cons

    Management contradicts itself
Management loves using big words and fancy business terminology, but has minimal follow-through
Work/life balance is nearly impossible (asking for a weekend or even a weekend day is like asking for a S10k raise)
    Benefits are sub-par
Pay is terrible--even for managers (compared to other retailers)
Their EDP (management training program) is a scam. You can find better jobs coming out of university.
The company finances and metrics are declining.
Company has been cutting back for years and will continue to do so.

    Advice to Management

    Less talking, more doing.
Practice the life/work balance and understand the needs of the employees come first-NOT THE NEEDS OF THE BUSINESS. Your employees drive your business and you are there for your employees.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Discount and interaction with customers, enjoyed getting to know customers, their likes and dislikes, ability to pick up hours and work different departments

    Cons

Pay compared to time your worked, little to no training, management often not available to help out when extremely busy, no longevity

    Advice to Management

Best way to manage is to pitch in when needed.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

commissions added to check for big purchase items working in big ticket departments like housewares, sometimes youll get a shark that buys the store basically and you can relax for the rest if the day if not the entire week knowing you made some money.

    Cons

you had to make their money for the day (goals, quaotas) and then eveything after that you keep a percentage of.

    "flexible part-time job"

    I have been working at Macy's part-time

    Pros

Flexible schedule for Holiday work, pick your own hours and sometimes your days off. Employee discount is 20% off, sometimes get an additional 10 or 20% on top of that.

    Cons

Low pay. You can make more $$ working at Target or Home Depot! Training is computer based, boring and not enough. Current employees were not very welcoming to holiday associates. Even after holiday associates were hired, they still seemed understaffed. They need to update their technology, cash registers are slow and outdated.

    Advice to Management

More training should be offered to new hires. They need to work along other employees more than just 2 hours on the first day. They need to be with them for a few days. The computer training is not enough.
