I have been working at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Knowledgeable and friendly colleagues
    Discounts on items

    Cons

Scheduling sucks, management full of themselves, makes a big deal if goals like opening a Macy's credit card are not met, does not care about your life outside of work, stays open later than everyone else. Hours are little and pay is little. Commission pay is not seen in paycheck.

    Advice to Management

Employees have a life too. We're not at home waiting for the phone to ring for you to call us in. If we want to come in, we'll let you know. Update the scheduler on insite because you should be working around our availability, not the other way around. If we give you an availability, stick with it and do not schedule us or call us for the time we said we're not available. Stop forcing everyone to come on key days. It is not necessary. Also increase the pay because what you pay us barely does anything for us especially after taking out a ridiculously large amount of tax. How can you be such an expensive store but pay employees so little??? Yet you want us to do 5 people's jobs all at once. Not everyone will want a Macy's credit card or join thanks for sharing or do a presale and you need to understand that and stop making a big fuss about it. When the mall is closed, you should close too.

I worked at Macy's (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedules, easy work, employee discount, incentives for opening credit

    Cons

Many commission based positions, returns affect your commission, they accept returns from years ago even when item is worn out and onviiisky was used, high turnover in management, commission % is different in all locations not proportionate with cost of living ( lower on east coast of fl than west coast )

    Advice to Management

Don’t accept returns of items that are over one year old that were clearly used till they broke.

    Pros

Flexible scheduling, competitive pay schedule, caring and supportive staff.

    Cons

    Full time schedule not offered

    Advice to Management

Allowing for full-time employment would foster loyalty and long term commitment

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Ability to pick up shifts almost anywhere, potential for benefits and upward mobility

    Cons

Part time means 10-20 hours a week and you’ll probably have to get extra hours in departments you don’t know. Management only cares about numbers. If it’s a store that works on commission, it’s imposisble to make any money off it if you work in a slow department.

    Advice to Management

Care more about your employees and listen to them when they have thoughts/concerns.
