I worked at Macy's for less than a year

    Pros

None other than staff in the department

    Cons

Disorganized "Chinese Firedrill"... no offense. Obivious why the're going out of business.

    Advice to Management

Keep it simple. Run a reputable respected store chain to serve customers, NOT a warehouse distribution center.

I worked at Macy's part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Meeting nice coworkers that are not in your competitive environment. Meeting nice customers from all over the world.

    Cons

Pay - commission vs. draw - that means any good week takes away from any slow week = $9.00 or less. #minimum wage. That also means cutthroat fellow staff. Painful. One is pressured to open charge accounts when most customers are from Canada or other areas or just don't want to. The pressure is also painful. Truly a disappointing experience. Truly sad to see Macy's go downhill. I had a terrible experience working here!...

    Advice to Management

I think it is ridiculous to have staff work on commission while you labor them away with fulfillment (online tasks), deep discount merchandise so there is no chance of good income and pit staff against each other by over-staffing during slow times and as such you make up your income - causing misery among your employees, too. A long time fan of Macy's no more!

I have been working at Macy's part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Nice co-workers, decent break and meal times. Adequate but not great employee discount (20%).

    Cons

I felt completely overwhelmed with the amount of work I was expected to do for such a low wage ($9/hr). We had to constantly put back merchandise on the floor, clean the dressing rooms (which were a nightmare of jumbled up clothes thrown on the floor usually), attend to customers needs, and try to make our ridiculously high sales goals just to make our "draw" of $9/hr. Part-time employees had a higher hourly sales goal...

    Advice to Management

Train new workers better, make the part-time hourly sales goals the same as the full-timers. It makes no sense to have the different, harder to reach goals for people who are there less of the time so are more unfamiliar with new merchandise, layout of the store, etc. Makes no sense!!! Staff the departments fairly so that favorites don't always get the high ringing registers. Get fitting room attendants so that the...

I have been working at Macy's full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Love the challenge, the attention to detail that is needed and thrill of the hunt and satisfaction of the find, no two days are the same.

    Cons

At times it can be overwhelming, but there is a satisfaction of a job well done when our numbers out do other stores two and three times our size.

I worked at Macy's full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Worked with some great people - sales associates and management alike. Company offers enhanced discounts on products on special occasions/dates.

    Cons

While I was not eligible for commission (on visual design team, not in sales) sales associates would complain about other "shark" sales people stealing their sales (and thus commission)

I have been working at Macy's full-time for more than a year

    Pros

If you work hard you can make decent money for retail. Flexible Hours. Some coworkers are fun and interesting to work with.

    Cons

Corporate culture environment that ignores hard work and rewards management favorites. Leadership is lacking and often leaves you to deal with unruly customers and stressful environments largely by yourself while they are up in their offices. Often, you will call for help and management will ask why you are bothering them. They mislead you on benefits and full time hours are less assigned less than what is needed to...
