I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-A decent amount of autonomy when it comes to running and owning your business
-Ability to try different functions (buying, planning, product development, etc)
-The people - for the most part people compete with the market and not each other
    -Diverse and inclusive culture
-Flex-time ability to work from home
-"Dress for your day" can dress more casual on days with no formal meetings
    -Macy's employee discount

    Cons

-Benefits including health and dental insurance are the bare minimum when compared to the market
-Don't observe all national holidays - Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President's Day, etc.
-Employees are encouraged to "drive your development" you have to know what you want to do next and network to get the position through company portal

    Advice to Management

"Driving your development" works to an extent, however, when you are open to new roles and functions it would be helpful to have SOME guidance from HR to understand what is available instead of just networking from role to role.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Amazing culture. Amazing work life balance ... like nothing I've ever seen before. Extremely flexible schedules / caters to the employee's needs for the most part.

    Cons

For such a large company, you'd think they'd have better benefits. Also, they live by this idea that they promote from within / move people around all of the time ... but in reality it is extremely difficult to move throughout the company into a different role. Matter of fact, they make it even more difficult by forcing you to get approval from your manager before doing so. Not only is that an awkward and uncomfortable place to put you in, but it also makes it more challenging to go after something you want. Very weird.

    Advice to Management

Help your employees grow into their next position and be proud of them moving into something new rather than being selfish and keeping them from growing beyond your role for your own personal gain.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Everything...work/life balance, being able to work from home, working 9-5, summer fridays leaving at 1, great people to work with all young and fun and chill

    Cons

SALARY! Especially if you graduate with a degree other than merchandising. If you're coming from a merch related degree, it's actually average to above average pay. But with any other degree this is the only con by far

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Without pride, one does not have emotional attachment—very easy job schedule and no reason to work too hard. The second I leave the building, I’m off.

    Cons

They will not provide proper supplies, workspace, lighting, etc for me to do my job properly. It’s a terrible joke. On a personal note: our kitchen has no bottom to its drawer and the handles are falling off (apparently, it’s been that way for years). It would cost $100 for a task rabbit to fix things to merely PRETEND to appear to care about the internal value and well-being of your employees, their workspace, and their happiness throughout the day. Need I say more?

    Advice to Management

“Brand Loyalty” starts within. Until some major changes are made to demonstrate any value in your own employees as a company, no one will care about your business and layalty will continue to fall.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Employee discount (20%) which can be applied on top of current promotions running in store and online.

    Cons

Truthfully speaking, the company has not been the same since last September after they laid off a majority of supervisors. HR is basically non-existent as well. Upper-level management are inflexible with their employees moving cross-functionally and promotions are very slow-moving. I felt so unmotivated/unsupported by my supervisor who constantly took credit for my work and the DPM/DMM did nothing to help when I approached them.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Once part of the great Federated family.

So many great sales, then the employee double discount helps!

Good location and some areas for employees to take breaks

Used to be okay benefits, not sure about now a days

    Cons

    merchandise is now cheaper

Federated is a sinking ship and it feels like it

There is no AC on hot days, great way to make customers want to leave the store ASAP

    Advice to Management

Invest int he few stores you have left. Make them amazing. Become the great store you once were.
