I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-A decent amount of autonomy when it comes to running and owning your business
-Ability to try different functions (buying, planning, product development, etc)
-The people - for the most part people compete with the market and not each other
    -Diverse and inclusive culture
-Flex-time ability to work from home
-"Dress for your day" can dress more casual on days with no formal meetings
    -Macy's employee discount

    Cons

-Benefits including health and dental insurance are the bare minimum when compared to the market
-Don't observe all national holidays - Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President's Day, etc.
-Employees are encouraged to "drive your development" you have to know what you want to do next and network to get the position through company portal

    Advice to Management

"Driving your development" works to an extent, however, when you are open to new roles and functions it would be helpful to have SOME guidance from HR to understand what is available instead of just networking from role to role.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You work on a ton of projects, which can be fun and keeps the role from becoming to routine.

    Cons

After over 30 emails to HR regarding my boss' bullying (which they agreed he was bullying me) I was asked what I could do to change his behaviour? I can only assume they were afraid of going up against someone that high up in the company. After I was called a homophobic slur and HR again did nothing, I left the company.

    Advice to Management

Clean house of people that have that many complains against them or rename "Human Resources" to "personnel" as there was no "human" or humanity in the people I dealt with. Show zero tolerance for those that are blatantly discriminatory and take complaints / accusations seriously.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Opportunities for growth exist and they do support succession planning to next level positions

    Cons

Schedule is typical retail nights, weekends, holidays. There is a lot of “coaching” meetings about meetings and excessive reporting that can bog down simply investing time on the floor working with associates and customer facing.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This company could care less if you're a dedicated and hard worker. You're told to open credit cards every day, if you don't you're immediately on their crap list. You're placed in almost every single department in the store besides the department you were originally hired in. Loads of internal theft by employees that doesn't go investigated, veteran employees break company policies throughout the day and are favored by management. This company I believe will go down very fast by 2020, everywhere I've read and seen and experience so far is nothing but the truth, Macys hire anyone to become a manager, they don't care about their employees. The employees work against each other and steal each other's commissions in the work environment. Any new comers will be eaten alive, new associates including seasonals aren't being properly trained. This department store has become a big headache to customers and worst headache and stress for workers.

    Cons

Management, LP, Understaffed, Stressful, Underpaid, Unfairness, Unorganized, Oblivious Management, Doesn't Properly Train Employees, Doesn't Properly inform employees about their Attendance (Point System)

    Advice to Management

Quit while you can, you have no business working for Macy's. You should be working at K-Mart. You all have K-Mart Quality as a manager.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

An active and social culture amongst co-workers

    Cons

Constant restructuring with layoffs that kills morale.
Management preaches change but is afraid or not supportive of actioning change.
Too many divisional leaders believe their area of business is unique and unable to compromise to scale processes.

    Advice to Management

There's a loser mentality. Where flat to LY is acceptable and praised. "A path to growth" is still down from your peak sales.

    Pros

good people, robust retail, community, volunteering opportunities

    Cons

lots of positions are fixed and dead end without the ability to advance or evolve no matter the effort

    Advice to Management

don’t ask for help or advice from employees on how to streamline and improve, then not consider the responses with care. anyone in a managerial to directors level need some support on how to properly advocate for employees under them. reward with opportunities and raises and compensation consideration.
