    Pros

Salary was good. The schedules were always in advance. The monthly meeting in the morning was a great experience, all departments come together to address who is up in sales and etc

    Cons

Have to have open availability. Not a job for someone as a single parent with no one helping them with there child. Unless you can do over night.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-A decent amount of autonomy when it comes to running and owning your business
-Ability to try different functions (buying, planning, product development, etc)
-The people - for the most part people compete with the market and not each other
    -Diverse and inclusive culture
-Flex-time ability to work from home
-"Dress for your day" can dress more casual on days with no formal meetings
    -Macy's employee discount

    Cons

-Benefits including health and dental insurance are the bare minimum when compared to the market
-Don't observe all national holidays - Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President's Day, etc.
-Employees are encouraged to "drive your development" you have to know what you want to do next and network to get the position through company portal

    Advice to Management

"Driving your development" works to an extent, however, when you are open to new roles and functions it would be helpful to have SOME guidance from HR to understand what is available instead of just networking from role to role.

    Pros

You will learn brick and mortar retail.

    Cons

    Nothing changes. They are dying.

    Advice to Management

The interest of the organization are being compromised due to the unhealthy infighting, territoriality and competition in the mid-senior management.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

great talent, lots of great experience and projects, employee discount, mentor and mentee opportunities

    Cons

Still hierarchical even though they preach about 'letting go and being courageous". They are saying they are eliminating the amount of cooks in the kitchen and to empower employees to make and run with decisions to manage business without red tape however, that is not always happening. More times than not it is still run by a very old mindset of management. They are letting go of a lot of young smart talent due to politics at the higher levels still. No job security there. A lot of running in circles and doing projects for no reason because at the end of the day nothing gets approved.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

No pros at the moment until there is a change

    Cons

It's an evil game of survival. No decisions, no empowerment, inconsistency with process, upper management that have been here for 20+ yrs NEVER CHANGE. No room for growth unless you're just a good talker but don't know how to do the job. No one can make a decision from VP and above. Our EVP RTW is evil and she trains everyone to not think and only please her. Antiquated system and process. CEO has no idea how bad it is with so many layoffs and forced terminations. They have these round table discussions to discuss what?? They toot the same horn about roles/responsibilities, empowerment, decision making, all that stuff and afterwards, none of that is practiced. It's a product driven company and they control EVERYTHING. Not good for Design as it's a product driven place. The GVP of design and product are not supportive and are afraid to support their teams to the EVP RTW. Late nights, skipped lunches, meetings overlapping, no recognition, and underpaid. discounts are not great because of all the restrictions. I've seen too many great ones go and and I'm disgusted with it. The remaining people are great until upper management pins you against each other!! It's really a sad thing to witness and be a part of. Just have to fake it with a smile until something better comes along or unless they restructure upper management.

    Advice to Management

ADVISE TO MANAGEMENT WILL NOT WORK. Top management needs to open his eyes and realize that there are a lot of unhappy employees who deserve more and not tell the teams to fix themselves but fix the senior management at vp and above and restructure that team because they are the ones that don't change and train their friends/colleagues of the same.
Need to release the ones that have been there for more than a decade and start with a fresh perspective. Think about it, business hasn't improved for years and so it falls on the vision and decisions of upper management. We are doing our jobs based off of what management and old time buyers want us to work on. OPEN YOUR EYES. IF YOU HEAR THIS ABOUT FROM MANAGERS, ASSOCIATES, AND ASSISTANTS THEN WHY ARE YOU NOT TAKING ACTION ON THE "WRONG" PEOPLE AND NOT THE ONES THAT ARE CAUSING ALL THE SPINNING AND INCONSISTENT STRATEGIES!!!!
