    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

A mostly friendly staff with a pleasant atmosphere. A good job if you need a side job for seasonal work, although be prepared for some stress if it's in the winter time.

    Cons

I had a major problem with one co-worker. Worst thing is that the coupons don't work on many, many popular items. It's kind-of a joke, really.

    Advice to Management

Try to respect employees' time and schedules.

    Advice to Management

Increase compensation and upgrade training videos (they're from the 90's)

    I worked at Macy's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The overall experience of working amongst people and makeup was pleasant. There was opportunity to grow and to learn skills involving makeup.

    Cons

A lot of the times, my coworkers would act unprofessional, being noisy and trouble-making. ALso, the hours were bad. The work place was unorganized.

    Advice to Management

The employees need to be trained better, and treated in a more professional way. It'd be nice if they gave new employees a heads-up on upcoming events and meetings.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

One of my favorite things about Macy's is the flexible work schedule and that you may exchange shifts with anyone at anytime.

    Cons

For the most part unorganized as far as scheduling and time management. The sales associates constantly have new tasks added to their daily routine. When ever difficult customers came in the managers gave them whatever they wanted even if it was clear they were trying to get over. This is a constant irritation because it makes the sales associate look incompetent. At anytime the associate could have given in to the customer, the managers are supposed to be able to say no when necessary but this is not the case most of the time.

    Advice to Management

Be able to provide great customer service and deal with difficult situations without compromising the clearly stated policies of the company.

    I worked at Macy's part-time

    Pros

    flexible hours
    Friendly coworkers (some)
    Creating your own schedule

    Cons

    Not much hours.
    10hr/week
Must use Macys card in order to get employee discount
    Minimum wage

    Advice to Management

Stop pushing employees to open loyalty cards. Care more about your employees.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are a lot of employee discounts given.
You are aware of sale items at can catch the items you want at a lower price.
Co-workers are fun to work with.
The managers have your back when customers are rude.

    Cons

Long shift spent on your feet.
Horrible holiday lines that come along with rude customers who are very needy.
you are forced to push customers to get the Macy's credit card.
You get a "grade" in your sales and sometimes other co-workers take credit when they didn't help the customer.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Leadership team is excellent, one of the best groups of people I've had the pleasure to work with. Definitely a "family atmosphere" at my store, although I've heard that other stores do not have as good a working environment. Excellent webinare-type leadership training.

    Cons

Low pay (but that's inherent to retail). Systems are pretty antiquated. Also, requiring an employee to apply for a store credit card in order to receive the employee discount was disappointing. Nothing else really comes to mind.

    Advice to Management

Revisit the compensation scale. The only reason I would jump ship is more more pay. Would also suggest requiring the long-term leadership to go through refresher training.
