    Pros

    Fast-paced

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly associates, easy to get hours, those on commission seem to be ok with the system, great location (Pasadena), work well with holiday temps

    Cons

Not ideal if you've never worked in retail before - job is fast-paced from your first day and can be overwhelming. By the time I was getting the hang of it, the holidays were over. It's retail at a giant corporation so it was about what I expected in terms of excitement, support etc.

    Advice to Management

Be patient with new employees, especially those just getting into retail. The other associates were happy to help me out but my supervisor wasn't always receptive to my questions.

    Pros

Had some control of your hours, if a coworker wanted to, they can pick up your hours without need of consultation with the manager.

    Cons

No sense of individuality, personal concerns with job were never listened or addressed

    Pros

    Great coworkers.
    Discount.
    Easy-going managers.
Got free makeup once in awhile after training. I liked the customers.

    Cons

Too much pressure to push Credit Cards.

  7. "Worked in Beauty Department, fun, lots of pressure to push Macys Cards"

    Pros

Beauty department was fun, customers were respectful most of the time, got to be creative in a sales environment, easy uniform (all black all the time), sometimes free products. Discount on makeup and perfumes as well as other macys products.

    Cons

They kind of make you sign up for a macys credit card in order for you to get the store discount. A lot of pressure to sign people up for Macys cards. One per day was hard sometimes. Daily goals seems impossible to reach for some counters.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

you gain experience in the retail field. some of your co workers become friends and family. even some customers become friends. I loved working in the department I was in (center core, handbags, fashion jewelry) my coworkers were great.
I learned how to resize watch bands, even the brand merchandisers were impressed with how quickly I would adjust them.

    Cons

at first you were able to pick up extra shifts, but then things changed and you had to go through the managers to check for extra hrs. I loved my department and the ladies I worked with, but sometimes I felt like the middle man.
expect you to open a Macy's card, when almost everyone already has one.

    Advice to Management

if you expect your employees to follow the rules, then you should also follow too. Don't pick favorites, this isn't high school, this is some ones way of income. If an employee has told a customer "No" because its what the Policy is Please don't tell the associate "yes go ahead and change the price" just because you don't want to lose a customer. And EVERYONE has a Macy's card so it is HARD to get a person to open at every register that they walk up to.
benefits for all employees, full time and part time, or at least give pt the option of benefits.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get paid every Friday, flexible hours

    Cons

They work you and expect a little too much of you at times. But very good place to work

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Very friendly atmosphere when working.
Around the holiday's there are usually potlucks or dinners brought for employees.
There is also the opportunity to contribute to a charity or benefit of some sort.

    Cons

Some employees are in a "dog eat dog" mode due to commission benefits and this can be a potentially harmful thing for both the relations of the employees and customers alike. No customer wants to watch employees argue over "who has the sale".

    Advice to Management

Keep providing assistance to employees and being great mentors to them. I have always had great managers and supervisors at Macy's and it's because of their positive mentorship provided as well as assistance when an employee needs general help or feedback.
