I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A lot of time offered off. Great for student's.

    Cons

Terrible benefits. Almost none and favoritism.

    Advice to Management

Empower the agents instead of micromanage.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Flexible Schedule
    Associate Discount is great
Can focus on tasks and be pretty independant

    Cons

Promotion ability is very small, and very few go on a promotion track
    Raises are tiny and non-negotiable
    Directors are stuck in ruts
    Outdated, windowless buidling

    Advice to Management

Switch up Directors, Management, even leads- everyone gets too cosy and cliquish. Stop hiring recent grads to be Managers without giving leads a change to go for management- it is the very definition of sabotage to give outside people jobs that should go to current employees first
    Pay more- way more

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great starter job is you are looking for flexible hours.

    Cons

Benefits start after a year of employment and aren't that great. Not enough PTO. Unless you like working all weekend and Holidays, the only opportunities to move up are in sales management which are mostly filled externally or if you've been with the company for many, many years. Ever since I started working for Macys there seems to be major changes and cuts on the store level.

    Advice to Management

Invest more into your employees and maybe the turnover won't be so high. There needs to be more value towards merit and not tenure.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Macys has an amazing model of training for their associates and when enacted and coached properly it does produce results.
The associates and managers are amazing every store has a family atmosphere.
    Generous discount
    Client system best in industry

    Cons

Work Life balance is non existent. You are on call all business hours 7 days a week. Working 50-60 hours a week.

Not enough help on selling floor, I have seen daily people dumping piles of merchandise in frustration because there are not enough associates to help check them out or assist them on selling floor to buy even more

Using your stores as .com warehouses. I love change and progression but adding this task on with no additional staff is impossible. You are working with the online customer as well as the customer in front of you and unable to give proper service to either.

Communication is always a problem in most stores and when you do not know information you look foolish to the associates your are managing.

    Advice to Management

Higher Ups need to get into the store to see what is happening. Macys was once prestigious and now our stores look like flea markets. Very sad situation. Help your stores, its shameful. Invest in staff, they are your Magic.

    Cons

Compensation is in the middle of the pack in retail environment.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Worked with amazing people, had the strongest clientele and best numbers on the team for a new member, great organizational programs to better the store, opportunity for personal success in growing company, never any trouble on hours

    Cons

Assumptions turn into accusations which turn into consequences wrongfully given and not a word can get through nor will it change the unescapable tragic demotion of ones pride, motivation, and inner self worth, going from and returning to the victimized.

    Advice to Management

    The Neighbor Theory,
First picture the classic vision of neighborly interaction. Saying hello while walking the dog, having wine and cheese get-togethers, watching each others' kids, and what about carpool! Good, now take this idea and personify it to fit you and an employee you ma

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Love working with my coworkers and customers. Love seeing new fashion every month. Regular customers are my favorites because they know me and come in just to see me.

    Cons

Lots of responsibilities that I don't think an associate should have to do. The constant cleaning because customers trash the racks is annoying. Customers have no respect for the hard work we do.

    Advice to Management

Most managers are great and listen and really dig in to try and help when they can. More feedback would be great and more money of course

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Large successful company allows for a lot of opportunity within the company. Customer service oriented. Competitive salary

    Cons

Few entry level Full-Time positions available. Start at PT with no benefits.

    Advice to Management

Allow for hiring Manager or Recruiter to offer positon or salary based on the individual candidate's value and assets. An increase in available full-time positions may decrease the turn-over rate.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I loved working for macys I made great friends and some great pay especially during peak season. I'd be offered over time every week and took as much of it as I could

    Cons

Hr didn't know what they were doing I got called asking if I wanted to work there after being hired months prior. Manager I had was really new to the company and didn't know how to set scheduling so I ended up being fired for no call no show

    Advice to Management

Hire more experienced managers for each department
