I have been working at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fast paced. They encourage you to learn alot of different things. Working for macys is an excellent first job choice. It is pretty easy and can open the door for endless possibilities. Applying for a seasonal is the best way to go and test the waters to make sure its the right choice for you.

    Cons

Keeping your numbers high. Trying to memorize all of the different steps for each and every task you learn. Staying on your feet constantly is really hard at first but you get used to it.

    Advice to Management

    Increase your safety.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice lunchroom, open Floor plan, training is ok.

    Cons

They say do what it takes to make customers happy, go that extra mile, bit what they want is quantity. Quality when you have time. If your over the age of 35 and are given the customer personalised service cause thats what the issue calls for you will hear about it and not in a good way.

    Advice to Management

Reread what it means to be a leader. You should want everyone to be successful.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    none none none none none

    Cons

I waited 2 hours for an interview because management was disorganized, and of course did not get the job . However , two friends who are very close to me applied to the same job, They were less qualified with no call center experience and have only worked one job their entire lives ... but they got the job. Whereas someone like me who is educated , has more experience working with upscale clients over the phone - got nothing.

My two friends agreed that the hiring practices of this place are questionable .

I interviewed a second time recently , and of course , had to wait almost an hour before I could get my interview . They didn't know i was supposed to interview , but somehow knew everyone else who was scheduled for an interview .

I interviewed, the interview went great and of course ... i was not hired.
it's becoming a joke at this point.
macy's hires people who are less qualified ,
maybe that's why they have such low ratings
    go figure

    Advice to Management

you wont last. ive seen management change in a short period of time . im going to keep applying and one day, ill break through the glass cieling

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get paid every week. They have a cafeteria on site (although the food is hot-plate/microwaved).

It's a solid job if you plan on making call center work your career (the managers have been there for YEARS). But I've also heard that other call centers in the area pay a few dollars more. I was told by one of my leads that he stayed for so long because of the flexible attendance policy. So it depends if that is more important than making money. A lot of my colleagues were either still living at home with their parents, or had a spouse with a second income. Under those circumstances, it's doable in Arizona.

When I left the company, I had about 15 points remaining (the average person uses theirs often and have <5). That is pretty much the only way you'll get fired (you point out).

    Cons

Your change cubicles once every other month.
If you are a good worker (good handle time) they'll give you pats on your back, but no real promotions or raises. You'll get maybe $0.03 more on your raise than your other colleagues. I was actually "promoted" several times...but my pay didn't increase because it was considered a lateral move. So I got MORE responsibility for the same pay. Oh, and don't bother going down to HR, they've fired the majority of the staff.

Keep in mind that the company isn't doing well, and there are a lot of offshore agents (mostly in the Philippines). They get paid little of nothing (in comparison) so don't feel too secure with your job. They could easily close your department, and have customer service completely offshore. If you work the Bloomingdale's side, you're safer (Bloomies customers DO NOT like talking to offshore agents).

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Commission able to be made while working in shoe department. Flexible hours. Fun part time job but hard to get full time hours

    Cons

Sales goals are hard to meet. Full time hours are hard to get. Managers are hard to deal with. High turnover

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Employee discount
Flexible hours (I was PT 5, scheduled for only 3-8 hours but was pretty much able to pick up any shift I wanted in almost every department, essentially picked my schedule)
    Good environment
Great coworkers as well as managers (in my location)

    Cons

Selling credit & meeting your sales goals is heavily pushed, even when not on commission. The fact of the matter is they're not really happy if you're ringing all day long or if all you do is talk to customers and do go-backs / organizing.... So there's not a lot of way to win.

    Advice to Management

Recognize the hours your employees are working and how hard they are working. I pushed very hard to at least be promoted to 12-20 and was denied every time despite exceeding all performance standards. Ultimately why I left. Nobody can live on essentially one shift a week (or 2 4 hour shifts).
