    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Friendly, somewhat accommodating outside of the holiday season, decent benefits, ability to make additional Macy's money as an incentive,.

    Cons

No room for advancement unless you are on a fast track or under a certain age. Retail hours are less than desirable for a normal life. You work most weekends, evenings and holidays w/o the ability to take vacations when you prefer. Long hrs and little acknowledgement or appreciation. Unless you pay off your charge immediately, the 20% employee discount doesn't help when the interest on the card is almost 30%.

    Advice to Management

Show appreciation to those that work their hardest, give their 110%, improve sales over last year, and don't take any of them for granted. Everyone is expendable.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Love the beautiful merchandise and the employee discount. Enjoy engaging with customers during transactions.

    Cons

Not enough employees on per shift to handle all work required.

    Advice to Management

Need to hire more recovery people for fitting rooms.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I don’t even like to give them one star. But after working for 8-10 hours a week on call with no respect, little pay etc. There were no pros.

    Cons

Management treats the minimum wage earners like slaves. The environment is horrible. Forced to dress up in only black and take breaks at odd times.

    Advice to Management

Because of my experiences here I have left and attended college and earned 2 degrees. This place was motivation for me to not be stuck in such a dead end job in a company that truly cares about nothing but profits.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

If you're a people person, this is the job for you. You interact with many different people and are really there to help them out.

    Cons

Lack of help when needed. No HR when you have questions. Lack of empathy for the associates by senior management. Have to try all day to have someone cover your breaks. Corporate policy continuously being overridden to 'satisfy' the customer even when it is wrong.

    Advice to Management

Stick to the areas you are to manage and help and assist associates in their mission to make the customer happy. Develop break coverage lists to make sure associate gets their breaks. Adhere to corporate policy and only make exceptions on a limited basis. Pizza parties aren't the only way to let your associates know they are appreciated. Remind them from time to time that when they are successful, we are and it's one big circle.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, mobile application technology, location close to home, employee discount program.

    Cons

Pay rate not competetive( much lower), compared to other retailers in the area, specifically increases over a period of time

    Advice to Management

Less task oriented and more people focused.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great co-workers, team environment, pay is actually not too bad for a retail environment

    Cons

Upper management is disorganized and inconsistent in which policies to enforce; conflicts of interest as they are friends with certain co-workers. Not all Macy's are the same: the manager in Pittsburgh fostered a hostile environment and had certain counter managers spy on other counters and report back to her. No surprise, she is no longer the manager.
