I have been working at Macy's full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Opportunity for new experiences and collaboration. The executive team at Macy's is extremely personable, encouraging, and appreciative of new ideas and honest feedback- when you have the opportunity to have any facetime with them. If you embrace change, stay committed, make an effort to stand out, and are willing to put in hard work you'll be in decent shape!

    Cons

The pay structure and opportunities for development at a certain point is discouraging. Many levels of middle management like manager and sr manger positions have been eliminated with additional VP level positions created, so it can be challenging to avoid getting stuck at the same level for a good period of time.

    Advice to Management

Embrace change, being willing to listen to diverse opinions and points of view, and hold onto good talent. Too many times poor behavior is rewarded when "the squeaky wheel gets the oil" and the hard working team players are taken advantage of. Executive Team- if you really want to hear it how it is, get input from those in the weeds as often as you can. And please bring back HR and IT- the help apps are not... cutting it.

I worked at Macy's full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Brand Name on resume is good

    Cons

Whenever I was in meetings it felt like it was for a school project. The buying team is like that too. Loads of politics. A lot of people in high positions who were not professional. Not a lot of growth unless you have a supportive boss. Jeff Gennette came to the holiday party with two huge bodyguards, What does he think his employees are going to do to him?

I have been working at Macy's full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

A new team of senior leaders after many years of the same leadership. It is very REFRESHING! New CIO, CTO, CFO and VP HR! They are open to listen and trying NEW things. Work from home.

    Cons

Still slow to make changes in comparison to other companies. Cultural shift is happening but incrementally.

    Advice to Management

Speed up change to survive the changing retail space.

I worked at Macy's for less than a year

    Pros

Money was okay. Commute was pretty good. One out of five employees were gems that made it possible to accomplish things.

    Cons

Unbeknownst to me, I was asked to report to work, without so much as an interview! It was clearly a clerical error, but once word got around, they released me. It was the first in a long line of administrative snafus where the director level managers were not showing much interest in tasks that kept the lights on.

    Advice to Management

You waste a lot of money on inefficiency: summer hours, obsolete systems, dead weight employees. Burn it all down and rebuild.

I worked at Macy's full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very enthusiastic employees trying to make meaningful change. Challenging category, and industry will allow you to stretch. Solid dev managers...tend to share resources across projects.

    Cons

eCommerce platforms are 10 years old and is stuck together with flammable glue! Talented people are squashed and their voices are not valued. Senior leadership in the business PMO is not sophisticated or skilled in managing the organization.

    Advice to Management

Walk the talk of openness and don't just create an idea for speedy results and think you have brought innovation to the organization.
