    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you work in cosmetics, you receive a ton of gratis, which is a nice supplement until you realize that's all you get

    Cons

The absent management, horrible hours, no money, work all holidays, on your feet with few breaks. Store chronically understaffed. Very young management staff...They need far more direction. Buy

    Advice to Management

Look to competetors for benchmarking. You'll need serious help.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

decent pay, vacation time, good resume builder.

    Cons

Working in the Macy's corporate office is like nothing I have ever experienced at previous companies (and I have worked for several retailers). The culture is horrific; upper management is all in it for themselves and treats assistants/associates extremely poor. I came into the EDP program so excited to be there and work for Macy's Corporate but it was NOTHING I had ever expected it to be.

Supervisor support is extremely poor. Quality of work is not valued, instead you get in trouble for minor, irrelevant instances. WAY too many office politics.
All the directors (buyers, digital merchants, VPs) that got to their level got there by selling their soul to corrupt values and morals of the company.

In my short time at the company, WAY too many assistants and associates have quit due to poor company culture and supervisor support, to the point where HR was raising suspicions/rolling out extended benefits to try to keep talent. Unfortunately, nothing they can do solves the real issues. What does this say about the company?

Wondering why Macy's is constantly filling 200+ Merchant Executive Development Program positions per year? Because nearly EVERY assistant leaves this company after about a year. Keep on wasting money training people that leave for better jobs/companies due to the internal chaos. Absolute insanity.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with RESPECT and VALUE. And, quite frankly, end the EDP program entirely. It's a total waste of company money/employee time--literally training your employees to work for competitors, and it doesn't even help EDPs transition into the assistant role (you learn irrelevant things).

Macy's needs to realize the problems of this company come from within rather than a "tough retail environment." Get it together.

I worked at Macy's (Less than a year)

    Pros

If you get along with your manager you can get some flexibility

    Cons

Many of them, just to mention some:
Fear over your job at all times for stores closing, creating a toxic work environment
    dated old system
Asset Protection treats store employees (not the managers tho) like if you're always stealing
Management is constantly yelling at you on the sales floor
vicious and maliciously overfed by supervisors bad competition behavior from coworkers
Managers don't get involve in sales operations leaving you with all the work to do and blaming you if something goes wrong
Zero willing from management to train you better
Human resources has looong time in the company, doesn't support your career if you aren't of the likes
Overloaded work because of understaffing, also you have to do supervisors work since they spent their time in meetings, conference calls and the manager's room, so you're in your own in the store
BE AWARE OF ASSET PROTECTION, they need to justify your job and are constantly accusing staff instead of watching shoplifters (which they can't do anything about it either)

    Advice to Management

Create less fearful work environment listening to what your employees have to say even if you don't like it.
    Human resources

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

When Macy's was Macy's it treated their employees like their own family.

    Cons

The new upper management is forcing their long term associates to retired or find another job. Hiring people for less pay and hiring people that do not care for the company or their customer! No wonder the company is going down. Customers are noticing this behavior.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your long term associates!!!

    Pros

They work with your schedule. If you can't work a certain day you can give away your hours to a coworker without harming your vacations or hours off.

    Cons

Working holidays, hours vary every week, super high expectations to open up credit cards, management never defend you from rude customers.

    Advice to Management

    Chose managers wisely.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Could use if you're just trying to add some customer service experience to your resume. The pay at the san francisco stores is higher than other macy stores.

    Cons

Consistently losing best workers, tends to force all the work on a select few who dont complain about the odd workload, dying company that lacks direction, everyone tends to shift blame elsewhere, everyone loves to gossip

    Advice to Management

Live like decent human beings and maybe your workhorses will stick around.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You can see your schedule online. You get paid time off benefits. You get paid for half hour lunch breaks. This is all I can think of.

    Cons

-This is a part-time job, but you are expected to have the availability of a full-time worker.

-They give you less hours a week than the amount of work that is required.

-Because you cannot possibly change all the signs before the store opens, you end up changing them in front of customers. This is incredibly uncomfortable.

-The work is quite hectic for the near minimum wage pay. There is a lot of pressure to be unrealistically quick and accurate.

-As a support associate, you are virtually ignored by management.

-Training is mostly done over a screen.

Do not take this job. Macys should figure out a more efficient way to change signs.
