    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

As a manager you actually have a lot a freedom to be creative to come up with ways to be successful. You get a lot of training and you get to work with your teams to successful. There are a lot of good benefits and rewards working there.

    Cons

The company puts more value in hiring young college grads with no experience over seasoned retail veterans. I saw the company go from being focused on brands to focus on discounts. Stores became messy.

    Advice to Management

Realize your most important asset is your people and stores that are understaffed do not look good or run well.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits: health, vision, dental are available to full and part time. The new conversion to an HSA has been a little difficult and expensive at times if you have a lot of dr visits. Vacation time is great, after 5 years of service you get 5 weeks paid. Macys loves to promote from within so if you want to work your way up the corporate ladder this is the company to work for as long as you don't mind commuting or relocating.

    Cons

It's a large corporation and people's voices get lost and creative thinking can be frowned upon. Training at the management level is horrible and non existent. They push leadership/ team building classes that are a waste of time and everyone dreads them. They push their minimum wage associates to donate money to their cause events, almost to the point of forcing them to donate.

    Advice to Management

It is extremely difficult to write someone up or fire them for poor behavior even if you have pages and pages of documentation. HR seems to be afraid of repercussions for de-hiring a long term associate and/or a member of management.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours, great people, great discount. I love the work I do, too.

    Cons

Salary is not comparable to other HR jobs by any stretch of the imagination. Terrible health coverage. Sales associates get perks, office help gets nothing.

    Advice to Management

Step up your game for the AST's

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great starter job is you are looking for flexible hours.

    Cons

Benefits start after a year of employment and aren't that great. Not enough PTO. Unless you like working all weekend and Holidays, the only opportunities to move up are in sales management which are mostly filled externally or if you've been with the company for many, many years. Ever since I started working for Macys there seems to be major changes and cuts on the store level.

    Advice to Management

Invest more into your employees and maybe the turnover won't be so high. There needs to be more value towards merit and not tenure.
