I have been working at Macy's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Team environment. Offer in house classes on different topics of business and leadership if you are allowed time to take them. Very charitable organization and big focus on giving back. 20% back of house discount even on sale items.

    Cons

Lots of politics and red tape to get anything across or anything done. Readily let go of older employees in favor of cheaper inexperienced ones while keeping favored incompetent individuals at the top. Terrible health coverage and non-competitive salary rates.

    Advice to Management

New CEO is still hung up on slogans with no real plan forward. Develop individuals at all levels to leverage experience across the company.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They recognize hard work and their training is very informative. The employees are great to work with and this is a professional environment.

    Cons

They are always watching and testing people. Sales goals are very important to them, with the exception of the shoe department, all the other departments are base paid with sales goals. Their sales goal can be demanding at times. Plus even if you reach your sales goal , you get deducted sales if anyone returns anything.

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees more and stop trying to set them up. Pushing employees to be all about sells and have no incentives , except $1-5 for every credit application signed up, is not worth it.

    Pros

There's good pay, very nice co workers, and it's just a flexible job to have. I've been working here for a month now and I enjoy it

    Cons

We need equal scheduling in departments, sometimes it feels as if there's more people in a certain department then others

    Advice to Management

    Hire more people

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They pay good for being a retail job. All employees are wonderful to work with there no matter if it is your first day or many years after.

    Cons

The company states the position is flexible but there are days you are still required to work all year long. A required amount of working hours are needed to obtain and keep benefits for the next quarter.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Internship program was amazing but not reflective of actual full-time work. I learned a lot and had a great mentor.

    Cons

I wasn't offered a transfer, promotion or raise until the day I had my exit interview with HR. HR was shocked by the way I was treated and apologized emphatically but unfortunately it was too late.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice people. Really super nice co workers.

    Cons

I was lucky I knew my schedule but for about 6 weeks I worked in merchandising I had to log in EVERY DAY to know what my schedule. they can change your schedule on a dime. One time I checked back at 9:30 pm to learn I had to be at work at 5:30 am. Warning about Macy money use it as soon as you get it or you are at risk to lose it. One time I got my Macy money to learn it had expired the day before my supervisor gave it to me.

    Advice to Management

Work on the log in for schedules so that employees can know in advance, also the training was confusing with regard to the schedule. I thought that I would be able to change my availability but it turned out it could only be changed every 6 months. Maybe I misunderstood but this was never really explained.
