    Pros

Lots of great people work in the company. Great integration of stores and online shopping. The leading OMNI retail company. i left with great memories and good experience.

    Cons

Stuck between trying to be innovative and fresh while also being deeply stuck in the ruts of the "old ways" of retail.
-Direct feedback doesn't really exist. Lost of people cannot take it so manager wont give it.

    Advice to Management

Store management's ability to lead is stifled with large district teams and "partnership" is used to justify bureaucracy between stores, districts, and the region. Fix it by reducing the size of the district teams and trusting store teams or refocus the priorities of in store managers to truly be just customer focused.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Generally easy and somewhat enjoyable job, good for those who prefer routine, consistent scheduling and repetitive tasks.

    Cons

Though company mission is theoretically to provide best-in-class customer service 'magic', management tends to be greatly more interested in sales, particularly credit card sales. This is de-emphasized during the interview process but seems to be the only statistic of interest to both departmental and store managers.

    Advice to Management

Ensure that you are supporting the other core competencies that contribute to overall store atmosphere and performance-- associates who are interested in the upkeep of each department as a pleasant shopping experience matter just as much as those who will not leave the register and push credit cards even on those customers who aren't really comfortable opening them.

    I worked at Macy's part-time

    Pros

Can earn extra by coming in early/staying late, nice employees

    Cons

They have an outdated system. Focused on employees getting customers to get a Macy's card but don't give incentives to employees for doing so. If super busy you don't always get your break.

    Advice to Management

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of great growth opportunities, they like to promote from within. Great employee benefits like PTO, employee discount, 401k, and flexible work schedule. Executives receive additional benefits as well. I enjoyed being an HR Business Partner for Macys and for the most part I was able to make my own schedule. Occasionally I would work from home which was really nice too.

    Cons

It's somewhat of a lonely thankless position. While we are business partners and a big part of our job is developing leaders we are not recognized very often and we are not bonus eligible. In addition, the pay is not very good for HRBP's. The best way to make money is to come in from the outside, negotiate a high salary and once you make it "in" get promoted A LOT!

    Advice to Management

Pay your most loyal talented HR employees a wage that matches their experience external or not.
