I have been working at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Straightforward job
Lots of downtime outside of peak season
    Good exercise, not too strenuous
Lunches and breaks enforced and guaranteed
    Entry-level, trainable
    Weekly pay

    Cons

Lack of funding for new technology leads to inefficiency
    Occasional “office politics,” mixed communication
Can be physically demanding at times, depending on shift and officers available
Hours scheduled weekly, subject to change
Hours based on all employee availability,
Hours may be cut outside of peak season

    Advice to Management

Please communicate with your associates and fellow managers, especially in regards to deadlines and expectations. Corporate, please don’t be so stingy when it comes to improving facilities. Innovation is insurance, money spent on improvements now is money saved from disasters later.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours, nice people, good place to work I love how you can get a discount on anything there. It’s a great part time job for student or college.

    Cons

Less hours, a lot of cloths to put back. A lot of down time. Very rude people in the morning.

    Advice to Management

Management was perfect , didn’t want to say anything was bad, they was very helpful and know what to aspect from you. Training is solid , co-worker is perfect

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people. Life Balance. Super easy to maintain flow. Moral compass in tact. Super power, iconic brand.

    Cons

Refuses to share upside. Too much cream only at the top. Lower than expected salaries for tech talent. Missing the formula for rewards on the tech side of the house. New leadership from pure-play tech not that impressive. Idea that bonus drive growth y/y is outdated.

    Advice to Management

Learn about the tech talent you've hired. Grow them. Share the upside and open the option pool.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a kind, happy, positive place to work. The atmosphere is friendly and inclusive. As a developer, I have been able to work on a wide variety of projects and learn new technologies. There is always opportunity to grow and take on responsibility if that is what you want.

    Cons

It's a big company, so tech changes slowly. Some people get stuck in the same stacks with similar work for a long time. Some people like that, but it can also limit growth. They under-invest in technology infrastructure and focus more on delivering products/features, over long-term stability.

    Advice to Management

Actually invest in technology - improve infrastructure, tooling, growth.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

A mostly friendly staff with a pleasant atmosphere. A good job if you need a side job for seasonal work, although be prepared for some stress if it's in the winter time.

    Cons

I had a major problem with one co-worker. Worst thing is that the coupons don't work on many, many popular items. It's kind-of a joke, really.

    Advice to Management

Try to respect employees' time and schedules.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company doing well on account of the product line they carried.
    Standard bonus given every year.

    Cons

Majority of the work done offshore
Vendor leads on site, who know the code base as they worked on it offshore.
Poor code quality, jenkins builds broken in the mornings on account of offshore checkin.
Offshore leads more concerned about job safety as they are on H1 visa.
The environment depends on the manager.

    Advice to Management

Try to have core knowledge within the teams here. Employees should be the go to for architectural issues not offshore vendor.

    Pros

A good place to work, co workers are usually good. very selective on who get promoted.

    Cons

The job is dangerous at times, depending on your location. Pay is not good for the risk.
