I worked at Macy's part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Working at Macys was a great experience. The associates are so beyond friendly they made coming to work everyday so much more exciting. Associates were super helpful when I first started in regard to taking their time in explaining how things work. I will forever cherish that because it helped me grow and learn that much faster.

    Cons

Schedule was pretty hectic, and pay was minimum wage which was a bummer.

There is not ONE main store manager to go to, no employee loyalty, if you make a mistake they accuse you of being dishonest w/company, nobody appreciates the store they work in as far as cleanliness etc

I have been working at Macy's full-time for less than a year

    Pros

-pick up extra hours if you need it -some benefits for full time people

    Cons

-understaffed, employees always covering for departments they’re not hired for -skimpy training -inconsistent management who don’t have good inter communication skills -little regard for the safety and well-being of associates -excessive pandering to customers -inconsistent rules and policies -disorganized return center, return policy, etc. -little opportunity for competitive pay, no commission, etc. -little opportunity for promotion -minimum wage -employee discount is through your macy’s card -no respect for LGBT identities -some managers try to require women to all wear heels and dresses, even though the job is actually very flexible -no action is taken by security or managers when an employee’s physical or emotional safety is compromised -keep in mind i think some of these things might be specific to my location

I worked at Macy's full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Relationships that are built with employees turn into great friendships

    Cons

Macy’s does not care about their loyal seasoned employees. External hires are paid more than associates who work their way up through the company, very low rates for the amount of work that is put into the job especially though holidays. Many stores are severely understaffed with associates who feel entitled because they show up. Macy’s is constantly cutting back on roles and positions and adding more responsibilities to associates and management “they want more for less” HR managers were removed from stores and now sales managers have absorbed that role as people leaders. When buy online pick up in store roles out a Omni team was set in place to run that then quickly removed and the responsibility of picking went to sells associates while assisting customers on the floor. I have seen days where a department with 2 or 3 associates working trying to assist multiple customers and trying to find 50 plus items at the same time. Promotions are not based on results but primarily on certain upper management liking you or desperation to fill struggling store positions. Macy’s is struggling to keep its associates and management team happy and it shows

I worked at Macy's full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I found some amazing co-workers who I now call great friends. The employee discount is a definite plus.

    Cons

A culture of bad customer behavior grew in the store. More times than I can count, customers were allowed to return fraudulent items & act disrespectfully to associates, all while certain Dept. Managers stood by and allowed it. As a commission employee, this greatly affected money being made. On occasion, bad behavior would even be compensated with things such as Macy's Money. At times, it felt like managers did not have associate's back, especially in the shoe department. People were getting more and more rude, knowing they could get away with murder, especially a select few regulars. With such a high intensity job where you have to clean the mess customers made of the shoe boxes & paper, it grew too much.
