I worked at Macy's part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Working at Macys was a great experience. The associates are so beyond friendly they made coming to work everyday so much more exciting. Associates were super helpful when I first started in regard to taking their time in explaining how things work. I will forever cherish that because it helped me grow and learn that much faster.

    Cons

Schedule was pretty hectic, and pay was minimum wage which was a bummer.

The Macy's come work sick policy for the 2018 holiday season

    StarStarStarStarStar
Current Employee - Sales Associate in San Jose, CA

I have been working at Macy's full-time for more than 6 years

      Pros

encourages employees to go to work sick

      Cons

Macy's will now deduct four points per day if an employee calls out sick during the 2018 holiday season. Normal non-holiday point deduction is 2 points per weekend days and 1 point per weekday. Doubling the point deduction will encourage employees to come to work sick for fear of losing their jobs – Happy Holidays.

      Advice to Management

Go back to policy from a few years ago and reward those who come in with perfect attendance during the holidays. Perfect attendance was rewarded with extra points.

I worked at Macy's full-time for more than 6 years

      Pros

Consistent work. Overtime available. Employees receive employee discounts.

      Cons

Working at Macy's has gone down hill since the new CEO took over. Customer service levels have dropped significantly. There is never enough product in the store to offer customers who don't want to wait and order on line. Seems like the bridal registry is not nearly as important as it once was to management.

      Advice to Management

Listen to your employees! They know what is going on.

      Pros

Love working with people Love to be busy Very charitable company

      Cons

Under staffed Focus is on helping the interns achieve greatness versus the managers already in place No work life balance 1 weekend off every 2 or 3 months Cutting positions every year, leaving less chances for advancement Poor training Below market salaries

      Pros

Sick pay, nice people, associate discounts, paid lunch break, 15 mins break after every 3 hour, most of the executives are very helpful

      Cons

The pay is not given based on a persons experience nor the cost of living of the area is taken into consideration resulting in high turn over amongst employees .

      I have been working at Macy's part-time

      Pros

Picked up a seasonal job here. Quick hire. Very friendly, nice people. Easy to learn on the job, very helpful to do so, and they expect you to make some mistakes while you learn. Management is a gem. These are really nice people to work for. It's possible to move from department to department easily if another one needs you and you can show your worth. I'm still there and most seasonals are gone. Managers will...

      Cons

It's a pain to have to clock in and out. Parking during holiday season and weekends is WAY over on the other side of the mall and, if you close, means you need to walk outside the mall in the dark and rain. A bit silly too when there are 300+ free spaces on the third floor of the parking structure in the post-holiday weekends. The system won't show you hours in other areas.

      Advice to Management

Warn people if the policy on parking changes... even your seasonal folks. Almost got a ticket because no one told me. Think about raising pay a bit to be more competitive.
