I worked at Macy's part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Working at Macys was a great experience. The associates are so beyond friendly they made coming to work everyday so much more exciting. Associates were super helpful when I first started in regard to taking their time in explaining how things work. I will forever cherish that because it helped me grow and learn that much faster.

    Cons

Schedule was pretty hectic, and pay was minimum wage which was a bummer.

I worked at Macy's full-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

I found some amazing co-workers who I now call great friends. The employee discount is a definite plus.

      Cons

A culture of bad customer behavior grew in the store. More times than I can count, customers were allowed to return fraudulent items & act disrespectfully to associates, all while certain Dept. Managers stood by and allowed it. As a commission employee, this greatly affected money being made. On occasion, bad behavior would even be compensated with things such as Macy's Money. At times, it felt like managers did...

      Advice to Management

need to have surveys where we can give managers feedback. they promote people to managers who are useless. they are just their to fill in a spot but cant perform the task.

I have been working at Macy's full-time for more than 6 years

      Pros

Schedules: You’re able to switch, advertise or call out and loose points without being terminated right away. Employee discount: You never pay full price at Macy’s. Similar offers are given to customers as well.

      Cons

Unprofessional management: Managers act like they’re the owners of Macy’s. They look down on their associates and talk to you like you’re nothing to the company in front of customers. They’re extremely nice during survey times and when hounding you to open the Macy’s credit card. Pay: You will never know what your raise will be. You’re also never coached to get the maximum on a raise.

      Advice to Management

If you hate your job and you’re unhappy and no longer proud of what you do on a daily basis, please resign. Your resentment of the company trickles down to your associates and then you wonder why they’re not performing to your liking. Have standards for yourselves and remember that you’re working with people too.

"The Macy's come work sick policy for the 2018 holiday season"

      StarStarStarStarStar
Current Employee - Sales Associate in San Jose, CA

I have been working at Macy's full-time for more than 6 years

        Pros

encourages employees to go to work sick

        Cons

Macy's will now deduct four points per day if an employee calls out sick during the 2018 holiday season. Normal non-holiday point deduction is 2 points per weekend days and 1 point per weekday. Doubling the point deduction will encourage employees to come to work sick for fear of losing their jobs – Happy Holidays.

        Advice to Management

Go back to policy from a few years ago and reward those who come in with perfect attendance during the holidays. Perfect attendance was rewarded with extra points.

I worked at Macy's full-time for more than 6 years

        Pros

Consistent work. Overtime available. Employees receive employee discounts.

        Cons

Working at Macy's has gone down hill since the new CEO took over. Customer service levels have dropped significantly. There is never enough product in the store to offer customers who don't want to wait and order on line. Seems like the bridal registry is not nearly as important as it once was to management.

        Advice to Management

Listen to your employees! They know what is going on.
