"The Macy's come work sick policy for the 2018 holiday season"

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

encourages employees to go to work sick

    Cons

Macy's will now deduct four points per day if an employee calls out sick during the 2018 holiday season. Normal non-holiday point deduction is 2 points per weekend days and 1 point per weekday. Doubling the point deduction will encourage employees to come to work sick for fear of losing their jobs – Happy Holidays.

    Advice to Management

Go back to policy from a few years ago and reward those who come in with perfect attendance during the holidays. Perfect attendance was rewarded with extra points.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Consistent work. Overtime available. Employees receive employee discounts.

    Cons

Working at Macy's has gone down hill since the new CEO took over. Customer service levels have dropped significantly. There is never enough product in the store to offer customers who don't want to wait and order on line. Seems like the bridal registry is not nearly as important as it once was to management.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees! They know what is going on.

    I worked at Macy's part-time

    Pros

Schedule posted online a decent time in advance, lots of part time associates hired so it's pretty easy to get someone to switch shifts/cover a shift which means a flexible schedule is very achievable. Work is generally straightforward

    Cons

Can get repetitive and boring, not the most exciting job

    Pros

    Love working with people
    Love to be busy
    Very charitable company

    Cons

    Under staffed
Focus is on helping the interns achieve greatness versus the managers already in place
    No work life balance
1 weekend off every 2 or 3 months
Cutting positions every year, leaving less chances for advancement
    Poor training
    Below market salaries

    Advice to Management

Care equally about employees as you do your customers

I have been working at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Sick pay, nice people, associate discounts, paid lunch break, 15 mins break after every 3 hour, most of the executives are very helpful

    Cons

The pay is not given based on a persons experience nor the cost of living of the area is taken into consideration resulting in high turn over amongst employees .

    Advice to Management

Pay people according to the cost of living in the area and their experience

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

such a great job for a student. I was able to pick up shifts when I wanted to and in whichever departments I wanted to. They understood that I was in school so didn't have high expectations for the # of hours I'd work in a week

    Cons

other people on the fragrance/cosmetics department were severely racist; a couple of them made derogatory comments towards an Indian couple after they had rung them out, unaware that I'm Indian.
