    I worked at Macy's

    Pros

    Nice discount at Macys. I loved the people I worked with. I worked mostly behind the scenes, off the floor, so I didn't interact too much with customers on a daily basis. Got to know management well for a low level incoming employee working in the back of the store.

    Cons

    Can be a tough schedule, depending, especially around the holidays. Pretty high turnover in a lot of the departments. Can be a lot like High School - very click-ish.

    Advice to Management

    With non sales people, obviously there are no sale metrics to rate them by. Still important to weed out difficult, negative people and encourage hard working and dedicated staff.

    Nice people to work with and nice customer base. Flexible scheduling. Nice merchandise and store discount. Computer system is easy to learn

    Cons

    Not having enough staff and support. Dealing with irate customers not having staff at hand to assist. Long hours are obvious

    Staff more employees, more employees perks and recognition programs. Wages are always the main reason why you choose an employer. Higher base wages would be a benefit

    Pros

    I liked that I could trade shifts with people and enjoyed working with fellow sales associates.

    Cons

    Pays minimum wage. Management told us to contact them anytime there was an issue with a customer, but often time multiple managers would not come when called or take thirty minutes or more to arrive, leading to frustrated customers to become enraged. I had to quit when I went back to school because management would not work with my schedule and would often give me shifts outside of my availability. Management stressed...

    Advice to Management

    Please become more organized and work with people's schedules. Understand that employees have outside lives and do not play favorites. My manager often times played favorites and I was not one of them.

    Inefficient staffing, extreme pressure to open Macy's Credit Cards, lack of coaching and encouragement, "drive-by" management styles, lack of career progression and advancement opportunities, lack of onboard ing/training

    Stop emphasizing unrealistic expectations of opening 3+ Macy's credit cards per shift and invest in developing and training your employees!

    Good benefits for employees such as 40-50% off for most cosmetic only for employee

    Cons

    Have to solve so many customer services experiences Sometimes, I also met with super rude customers, however, Macy's always accepts customer is always right

    Understaffed, work overload, low pay, small raises, vacation time blackouts

    Advice to Management

    mgmt & support staff are understaffed & overworked w/unrealistic objectives. There needs to be more staff & incentives for support. Too many floor moves, @ critical times of the year, & store visits on top of under trained associates.

    Pros

    I enjoyed the people I worked with. Great flexibility with schedule. Double-edged sword of having an employee discount.

    Cons

    One of the problems I faced on almost every shift was the lack of communication between the associates and the managers. On the whole, Macy's also just doesn't put enough people on shifts, so customers are constantly annoyed that they can't find associates to help them, or have to wait in long lines.

    Add more employees to each shift.

    Laid back. Easy. Consumer are easy to manager. It's a great job while in school. Hours are great. Worth it.

    Not high class. Have to deal with different kinds of people. No motivation.
