I worked at Macy's part-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Loved helping customers. Had a blast with them

    Cons

Many days you come in to find a decision has been made by corporate that makes work harder for us but also negatively effects customers. Often these changes make no sense because they don't improve sales and either add to costs or can't save very much money

    Advice to Management

Think about the effects of your decisions on staff and customers. It is not all bottom line. There are intangibles you are missing that actually add to your profits. Provide training for staff on the products they are selling. Help your people improve. Use mentorship. So many things you could do but no one is willing. It's a shame

I worked at Macy's full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Extremely fun fast pace, physical work, very supportive MTM's, the HR people are amazing, plus great downtown location.

    Cons

As a seasonal merchandiser, you will be shunned by the long-time Union employees. Minimum wage and they require you to open a Macy's credit card account if you want to use the employee discount.

I have been working at Macy's full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

Few consequences for not showing up to work.

    Cons

Pay is not competitive, even with commission; stores so short staffed that customers are frequently upset upon finally finding someone to help them; unable to spend necessary time with any one customer, resulting in high cancellation and return rates.

    Advice to Management

Furniture and mattress customers expect a much higher quality of service than they would get looking for shirts at Ross.

I worked at Macy's part-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Somewhat flexible hours, reasonable store discount.

    Cons

Consistently understaffed, even during busy times: nights, weekends, holidays. Employees are expected to pick up the slack for lack thereof, thus pushing back break times and extending hours past what is scheduled.

  10. "Meh."

    StarStarStarStarStar
Former Employee - Retail Sales Associate in Seattle, WA

I worked at Macy's part-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

Co workers were cool. Only good thing I remember. Dope people.

      Cons

Felt pretty disorganized. I got thrown around to different sections. Had a shift extended without even being consulted about it first, so when I tried clocking out, I wasn't able to.
