I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Few consequences for not showing up to work.

    Cons

Pay is not competitive, even with commission; stores so short staffed that customers are frequently upset upon finally finding someone to help them; unable to spend necessary time with any one customer, resulting in high cancellation and return rates.

    Advice to Management

Furniture and mattress customers expect a much higher quality of service than they would get looking for shirts at Ross.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Somewhat flexible hours, reasonable store discount.

    Cons

Consistently understaffed, even during busy times: nights, weekends, holidays. Employees are expected to pick up the slack for lack thereof, thus pushing back break times and extending hours past what is scheduled.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Training, benefits, discounts, history, store level employees were always a joy to work with.

    Cons

Long hours, poor management, no work life balance.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Co workers were cool. Only good thing I remember. Dope people.

    Cons

Felt pretty disorganized. I got thrown around to different sections. Had a shift extended without even being consulted about it first, so when I tried clocking out, I wasn't able to.

  8. "Doesn't value it's employees"

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Employee discount, fellow co-workers and customers you'll meet while there.

    Cons

You're micro-managed and treated as if you mean nothing to them and that's because as I stated above they absolutely do NOT value their employees. There's more than one reason this company is not doing well and this is one of the reasons. All about corporate greed and at the end of the day this companies main concern is $$$ and they could care less about their employees.

    Advice to Management

Care about your employees, be genuine, and truly VALUE them and you might get more from them and possibly stay in business..

  9. Helpful (1)

"Horrible experience working there. Employees are not paid well enough for the work they do. Horrible management"

    Pros

Met new people. Good for the first time job. Better than not having a job. If you are new and don’t have any skills you can start here.

    Cons

Long hours standing on your feet. Unpredictable schedules. Most managers do care about the employees. Just care about the numbers. It used to be union but did not do much for the employees. Overall bad experience working there.

  10. "Friendly people, awful company"

    I worked at Macy's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everyone I worked with was really nice and helpful. If it wasn't for them, I would not have stayed as long. Additionally, I did learn a lot (though, not through the help of mentors or instructors but rather through my own experience.)

    Cons

It's corporate. They will want you to open credit cards first and foremost, they'll want you to almost literally grab customers to "show them something", and even if your numbers are killer and you clock out 2 minutes early, that's what you'll hear about.

    Advice to Management

Take time to help employees that show promise, make your customers feel comfortable not like they would rather die than make eye contact with an employee.
