    Negative Outlook

I worked at Macy's as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get to work with a large number of department managers and have a chance to observe which management techniques work and which ones do not.

    Cons

The stores are not very well staffed or organized. You would think that as long as they've been in business, they would perform better planning.

    Advice to Management

During peak times in the year, it would payoff better to be overstaffed than understaffed. Lots of sales are lost due to the lack of coverage in the departments.

    -Good amount of PTA
-Get a whole mpnths schedule in advance

    Cons

    -CREDIT, CREDIT, CREDIT
-New scorecard system doesnt take customer service into account
-Store MAnager delegates to GSMs who then delegate to the CSS.
    -Pay Sucks!

    Advice to Management

Take into account the human aspect of things, not just the scorcard. Also dont make the employees feel like they owe you loyalty, oh you missed your goal by 2 last week so this week you owe me 5, whats up with that?

    Pros

The associates I work with are outstanding. The level of dedication by associates and managers to provide outstanding customer service is admirable. All levels of emjployees are dedicated to working hard, providing good service and meeting the stores goals,

    Cons

The staffing is a huge concern. There are simply not enough associates staffed to provide the level of service the company wants to be known for providing their customers. The management can be unprofessional and petty about small issues.

    Advice to Management

Develop a clear focus on the bottom line and create strategies to reach it. Everyday the focus changes from loyalty, to community events, to sales, to recovery, to service provided to our customers. If its outstanding service that is the bottom line give associates the ability to give it. Start staffing appropriately, get support staff for the fitting rooms, fillers for home!

Current Employee - Service Supervisor in Daly City, CA

    Pros

Fun, energetic, room to grow, flexible scheduling, benefits if full-time, employee discount is 20% and sometimes 30%, get first crack at shopping.

    Cons

Always changing sales and coupons and ways of doing things (which can be good sometimes) so it is tough to keep up with everything and when a customer is asking you a question you might have to hunt down the answer.

    Advice to Management

They are okay, some are great and some take themselves WAY too seriously. They are a little robotic sometimes always pushing the same credit and sales goals.
