    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    The employee discount is nice.

    Cons

Hours are inconsistent, they will schedule you from 5am-2pm, and later on will ask you to leave at 10am. Repetitive, disrespectful co-workers, sort of demanding, fast paced.

    Advice to Management

Manage are not shy about playing favorites. If they like you, you can get away with anything, for example dress code there is a gentleman that wears sagging pants, employees eating while working.
    Give more ownership to employees.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The only good thing about working at Macy's is the store discount. You get 20% off with a few restrictions on designer items. Occasionally they gave very awesome specials like 50% off cologne.

    Cons

Every manager is different when it comes to customers. Some are complete pushovers. If the customer complains they will bend over backwards and give the customer whatever they want. I have seen customers walk out with expensive jackets for about a third of the price they should have paid. Some managers are the complete opposite. They will refuse to give any discount even if it is a display item.

The pay and hours were crap. I worked in the mens shoes department. Commission vs draw. Your pay will most likely depend on the location and department you work in. We never had anything in stock. Your hours will also effect your pay. Obviously the weekend shifts are busier. The worst part about the pay is when a customer refuses to pay for the item in your department you will not get any credit for the sale. You can waste 45 mins of your time helping someone but they cant give you an extra min to ring em up. My advice would be to take the shoes or whatever you sell when they are done trying them on and make sure they dont take off with them. You have to be assertive.

    Advice to Management

Become consistent with your policies on how to handle certain situations. Spread the busier hours around different workers so they can make some money. Have a system in place where we can still get credit for a sale if the customer does not want to pay at our particular department.
