There are none at the moment.

    Advice to Management

Please keep up the good work.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Vacation is liberal, you will need every day

    Cons

    Everything.
Staffing is a joke, managers can’t hire
to cover basic needs, customers complain non stop about having to wait. Tons of hoops always an excuse as to why you can’t hire. Then you get to attend a stupid meeting once a week to discuss why your failing and have no people. ( see above )

Customers are horrid, abusive, aggressively, threatening bodily harm over anything they feel will get something for free. The customer is always right, as a manager you are always wrong. Give them what they ask for ? Some one will open a hr case. Don’t give them what they ask for? Some one will also open an hr case.

This hr system “case” system keeps anyone from ever having to engage in a professional discussion. You just run to a computer and snitch on anyone and everything.

Upper management never backs mid level managers under any circumstances.
You can be expected to work open to close and every day off .Only rewards are suspensions and formal write ups. Not the best way to motivate a sales staff.

    The pay is atrocious

    Advice to Management

Learn to actually and articulate. Instead of teeth sucking glares and continuous hr cases, actually learn leadership skills. Speaking, communicating, problem solving. If something transpires? Speak to all parties involved instead of your favorite manager. We don’t need to be pitted against each other. Take the time to get to know what motivates the team, instead of picking a remora fish to follow and feed you with useless gossip.
Lastly, actually look at retention? Study why, trends, percentages and change behaviors according

    Pros

    flexible scheduling

    Cons

    low starting pay rate
    very high attrition rate

    Advice to Management

specific to the call centers: hire and promote from within. a dedicated team member who has devoted years of service to the company and shown true loyalty will be a better manager than a 22 y/o with a BA in Communication or Management that is only going to use your role as a stepping stone to a higher paying job within 1-2 years

I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Shifts for support are very flexible to your needs outside of work, employees on support team are good people, as part-time you get holiday pay, benefits for part-time are also decent, you do get vacation pay based on the amount of hours you worked the previous year which is a good perk

    Cons

Pay is sub-par (ex Target is now above $10/ hour STARTING and heading toward $15/hour) Hours are VERY early (start at 6am, sometimes 5am) and holiday stretch of Thanksgiving to Christmas is a bear with start times - some times as early as 4am (but it is retail). Hours tend to be inconsistent at best - one week 25 hours, next week 12.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, very quick application to hiring process ( I was emailed the day after submitting an application to say they would be calling, then received their call the day after that and was told on the phone I was hired.)

    Cons

Minimal training, stressed mgrs. They do try to be professional in what they do and have lots of on line training even for seasonal employees.
