    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Awesome team, dedicated supervisor, genuine staff including HR and store manager, praised and rewarded for work ethic.

    Cons

Before I state my one and only con I want to emphasize that I loved this job and in no way was it the company's fault what transpired. Was let go because a fellow co-worker accused me of vandalism. I did ask that the tape from the security camera be reviewed to prove my innocence but was told that the camera was in constant motion so it wasn't possible.

    Advice to Management

It is inevitable that conflict will arise between employees, however, to let someone go based on an accusation, with no proof whatsoever, is unjust.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Fantastic management team
    -Store is well organized
    -Wonderful employee discounts
-Almost all employees seem to get along with each other

    Cons

    -Hours are terrible
-Originally told I would be getting a certain percentage commission but ended up getting way less, essentially making minimum wage

    Advice to Management

The store I work at is actually pretty great, minus the cons above. I work my butt off and I need more hours, it's so hard to pay the bills and doesn't help when you are sometimes only given 3 hours a week, and there are no additional hours available to pick up.

    Pros

I'm still searching for at least one.

    Cons

Full time at Macy's is only 20 hours! NOT 40, or even 30. HORRIBLE pay, no growth opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Too many associates, not enough hours.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Macy's has good seasonal positions for those who are looking for supplemental income. Twenty percent employee discounts were also a nice benefit. The people are great and working with customers can be fun. The sales team is very helpful and very actively geared towards teamwork with the non-sales teams in the store.

    Cons

I was a non-seasonal, permanent hire from July of 2013 to December 2014. My job title was support team signing associate. This review is less about my feelings towards the company in general and more about my experience with superiors and the people I worked with. I typically had a very good time with my coworkers, although my team lead, an associate with tenure of at least fifteen years, had a continuously foul attitude and was never reprimanded for it, despite the high employee turnover rate and frequent complaints from my department, so feel like I can safely say that it wasn't just me who had a less than good experience at Macy's. Whether it was negligence or favoritism, my lead would only have issues with the management if my manager was directly affected by a problem she caused. Secondly, this is not a very accommodating job for students. Part-time support team jobs are typically on call and are mostly scheduled for early morning hours, so for any student who is taking an average of twelve to fifteen credits per semester you will find the later parts of your fall semester and the early parts of your spring semesters a particular challenge. Also, as far as I could tell, the seasonal positions at Macy's, although still hiring students, were typically much more generous with hours and much more friendly towards those not attending school. Like any retail position, any pay between seasons is slim and trying to change between departments that have more active off-season positions is a nightmare. Overall, part-time support team member, is not a stable job and conflicts with many other facets of your life.

    Advice to Management

I had a very good experience with the general managers as well as all the sales managers I came into contact with. My advice towards general management would be to communicate more with the support team manager. As well as taking a closer look when reviewing the performance and conduct of team leads. Second, I would recommend that Macy's begin using electronic signage in there stores. The amount of paper signs used and thrown away on a daily basis is very disappointing, especially for a company that continuously claims to be going environmentally friendly. The guidelines for designating non-verbal signs to fixtures is also very confusing for customers. It seemed like my job for the second half of my morning shifts at Macy's was to explain how the sign worked and why not all the items on the rack were the actual price being advertised. Overall, it felt like an unnecessary and obsolete position for one of the top retailers in the United States a decade and a half into the twenty-first century.
