I worked at Macy's (Less than a year)

    Pros

Store discounts. Great for part-time work if you're looking to supplement your income from a full-time job.

    Cons

There is no real direction given, management tells you which department you are assigned to and then you basically just have to figure things out on your own. Low hourly pay and not enough hours.

    Advice to Management

Raise hourly rate or provide employees with more hours

I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Extra discount days. Coupons and Macy money. Those are the only pros. Trying to get the Union here is like pulling teeth

    Cons

Everything. The store is open during blizzards when there is ZERO transportation. The freight elevator constantly breaks down with employees in it. It's well over 90 degrees in the store because there isn't air conditioning

    Advice to Management

Upper Management needs to reevaluate who they hire as managers in the stores. They are very disrespectful to employees. They degrade us on the floor in front of co-workers and customers. 99% of the managers are foreign born and discriminate against American employees. It's a very stressful situation to be in

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Weekly Pay (whoop whoop!)
Discount (But its only 10%, so its a con as well -- 10% is nothing in Macy's)
Family Like Atmosphere -- Being around my co-workers made the day fun and go by faster, especially because we worked early mornings.

    Cons

Horrible Pay & Discount. Its kind of crazy that Macy's only pays minimum wage. I was seasonal and only looking for some pocket cash so I didn't complain at first, but permanent part timers were paid the same. Some co-workers and even managers were very shady. There are two different Macy's in the mall, and they do not work with each other, instead employees on one side feels superior to the other. The way this particular store runs, its not worth the trouble.

    Advice to Management

INCREASE PAY. Managers need to learn to respect ALL WORKERS. That 'Manager' title doesn't mean you can talk down to associates. Need more advancement opportunities, and also give priority employment to old seasonal workers trying to come back before brand new applicants

I have been working at Macy's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The knowledge of some of the associates is impeccable and helpful.

    Cons

The managers are not very professional, shouting out every new account opened on their walkie talkies. The store is understaffed on key days due to employees who do not want to be stressed on these days.

    Advice to Management

Consider putting more liability on all associates, not only the few that do the work.

    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed interacting with the customers.

    Cons

There is no efficient structure and organization. Managers and the higher ups talk to employees as if they're children. The Valley Stream Macy's is such a joke. No hours were available for weeks. I never met my manager. Never set a schedule. After I was hired I was left on my own. Don't get me wrong I'm an adult, and can figure things out...but management was not helpful period.

    Advice to Management

Be more on top of your stuff. Treat associates with respect. We are not your children, this is not a school or boarding school. We are all on the same side with the goal of giving great customer satisfaction and obtaining sales. Work WITH your associates, not against them.

    I worked at Macy's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I loved the people I worked with. As a sales associate you learn a multiple amount of customer service techniques. The discounts offered on the employee website for cellphone bills, Broadway shows, rental cars, etc.

    Cons

Outrageous sales goals, not enough associates working on sales days, too much responsibility for a sales associate, low pay, low raises. Too much competition when it comes to picking up hours. Attendance system is questionable and possibly illegal???

    Advice to Management

Managers are too dependent on Associates.
