    I worked at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Really nice, quality products. It is a fun environment if you like being at the mall, and provides good exercise , as you are on your feet all day. The schedule is very easy and accessible. You can pick your own shifts and schedule yourself for the most part, unless you are needed at the last minute. You only have to push a button to call out. If you are a cashier, you are able to pick what department you want to work in.

    Cons

Seasonal employees: For training, you will sit at a computer for hours watching videos. You will not know what department you are working in, and will have no time on the sales floor until your first day. You will have no time to learn product knowledge or learn your way around the store. You will only get to use your employee discount if you sign up for their Credit card. If you get a prepaid card, you have a $50.00 spending limit. Some employees will treat you like you are below them if you are a Support Associate. You will not know if management wants to keep you for post-seasonal employment until a month later. There was always confusion regarding sales and coupons with customers. Also, spend your Macy's money fast or it will expire!

    Advice to Management

Please care enough to train your employees, even if they are just seasonal.

I have been working at Macy's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Employee discount with monthly "extra 10" and semi-annual extra 20, weekly paycheck, associates are great, opportunity to learn various merchandise, flexible hours, fair holiday pay policy,

    Cons

Hourly pay rate is too low, commissioned associates hammered by returns, super small paycheck during slow retail times, non-responsive management, unrealistic new credit card goals, scheduling issues with "feast or famine" coverage on the floor, HR department can be difficult to deal with on the store level

    Advice to Management

Listen to what your emoployees are really saying - you spend a fortune on an annual engagement survey but don't really listen to associates during the feedback meetings.

I have been working at Macy's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers are very nice, at my location anyways
    Great breakroom
    Uniforms are easy- all black
    Discount is pretty good.

    Cons

Pressure to meet often unrealistic sales goals. If sales goals aren't met, you don't make commission. Basically stuck at minimum wage if sales goals aren't met
    Pressure to sell credit cards
Ridiculous hours, either way too many or hardly enough, plus the schedule is always changing
Only get a break if I work 6 hours or more, so if I work 6 hours only I will be on my feet the entire time.
expected to be a cashier, do recovery, customer service , and act as a stylist for every customer that walks in. Macy's expects a whole lot for very little pay, plus the added pressure of selling credit and meeting goals that will determine if your get commission or not

    Advice to Management

Maybe focus more on your merchandise than trying to sell credit. Also, stop expecting so much out fnyour employees if your are hardly going to pay them
