    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Madison School & Community Recreation part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people you work with are the best. Everyone is so friendly, helpful, supportive... I've never worked anywhere that the staff was as appreciative as MSCR. Plus, at the end of every workday you walk away knowing that you've done something good for your community and you've made someone's life a little bit better. It's a win-win from every angle.

    Cons

There's no downside to working for MSCR. If you're given the opportunity to work with them don't ask for 24 - 48 hours to think about it, ask how soon you begin.

    Advice to Management

Management should know that they're appreciated by their staff as much as they appreciate their staff.

I worked at Madison School & Community Recreation part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very organized, a lot of support from supervisors, you get to make the summer fun for at-risk kids, you get to be outside a lot, you get to be creative with lesson plans, competitive pay

    Cons

It's pretty hard to get full-time hours here, sometimes spending the day with 25 kids can be exhausting

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing!

I have been working at Madison School & Community Recreation (More than a year)

    Pros

This job allows you to be very hands-on. Since I studied working with individuals with disabilities in college, I was able to take what I had learned in the classroom and apply it to my work.

    Cons

There is some disconnect between upper management and site directors. You have to be very active in getting information on your own.

    Pros

The kids are the reason to work.
The pay was good for how much work you are doing.
Great fit for schedule of a college student.

    Cons

Management could have used some better guidance.
Management sometimes too friendly to employees not being able to discipline those that needed it.

    Advice to Management

Put time into visiting the sites and offering praise and correction for those that work there. Keep this a fun place to work by making it fun for children.

    Pros

It is very rewarding to be able to work with children. They do have a sense of appreciation for all the effort that is placed to keep their activites going and to usually are behaving. That is not to say every day is peaches and cream but most days make me go home with a smile.

    Cons

They are limited hours of work available unless you are a fulltime teacher, but at least you know that you have your weekends off and will never have to work any harder around the holidays, And all normal national holidays are also taken off.

    Advice to Management

Continue to keep working on the communication. It is always important and will be so.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Madison School & Community Recreation full-time

    Pros

-Get to work with a fun and young staff
-Spend your time mentoring and having summer fun with great kids

    Cons

-Directors can vary from site-to-site so experiences are very different between program leaders
-Fairly unorganized at the beginning of the summer, I didn't know which site I was working at until the first day of training

    Advice to Management

Don't overwork the lower-income school districts. Know when to say "no we can't take on this higher-risk student because we don't have the resources this summer."
