I have been working at Madison Square Garden full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A recent over haul of the benefit package has improved the offering.
This in conjunction with a new HR portal has made it a lot easier to get information on available services.
New training materials are practically gushing into the system.
The arena is in a great location.
New shared space has been provided including a cafeteria called the hub and a lounge type room with lots of windows and natural light.
They are really pushing the opportunity to engage with senior management making it easier to see whats expected if you want to move up.
A new ticket request system has been implemented.

    Cons

It can be a little intense at times. Not for the fainthearted.

    Advice to Management

Different people are motivated by different rewards for high performance. Find out what individuals are willing to trade to perform consistently above expectation instead of reviewing whether people have exceeded expectation.

I have been working at Madison Square Garden part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great working with current and former players on the NYR, working with kids and the community. Get to be on the ice and coach kids.

    Cons

Doesn't pay enough given that you only work a few hours here and there each week. Not enough responsibility given, almost too easy.

    Advice to Management

Give staff more responsibility, better pay.

    Pros

Company is good for the resume.

    Cons

Worst management ever. No interest in retaining talent. Do not hear their employees.

    Advice to Management

The worst Human Resources department on the planet. Literally I sat there to get some advice on how to handle a situation with my manager, the HR rep ate her lunch and stared at her computer screen the entire time. This was after many phone calls to even get an appointment. I have never experienced an HR group like this. Totally disconnected and there to support EVPs only.

    Pros

    Great for the resume.
    Decent pay.
    Network builder.
It has been called the center of the sports universe.
Working at MSG does bring recognition in NYC.

    Cons

    70% politics/ 30% work
    Don't expect to get promoted.
Don't expect to have work/life balance.
Don't expect intelligence befitting of a world recognized brand.
This company struggles with the concept of "throwing people" at the problem and wonders why top talent refuses to stay.

    Advice to Management

Management needs no advice and doesn't welcome it.
