I worked at Magellan Aerospace full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work life balance was good. Benefits were above average, especially health care and dental programs. Very clean work environment, especially for a manufacturing facility

    Cons

High turn over, especially in the quality and manufacturing engineering department. Certain managers we difficult to get along with. Also did not help having the customer on-site over seeing every decision

    Advice to Management

Be more proactive to retain employees. Seems like management expected to lose employees on a regular basis. Try to diversify customer base as well.

    Pros

Great Benefit package, Good People for most part. Fenced in parking.

    Cons

More salaried employee than hourly employee in a manufacturing field. Union flexes their muscle excessively at any new employee. hourly also does not trust new salaried employees and less so for female engineers. High turn over rate for engineer creates chaos for continuity of improvements and high loss of traceability in actions performed for programs, high turn over also diminishes customer's relationship. The city in which the plant is located also has higher than normal crime rate.

    Advice to Management

Need less salaried employees and give engineers more responsibilities, 7-8 ME for ~15 active project seems excessive, half of which are low quantity demands.

I worked at Magellan Aerospace full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work life balance is pretty good.

    Cons

Management here doesn't focus on utilizing employees for their strengths. You'll see engineers driving fork trucks, schedulers moving around parts, experienced CMM inspectors doing visual checks. This is not a way to retain good employees.

The administrative tasks are too cumbersome. Engineers here are doing clerical work 80% of the time.

There is way too much finger pointing. When problems arise, managers more focused on blaming people in other departments for causing the problems than actually fixing them.

Management plays favorites and if you're not in their special people list you'll be disrespected regardless of your performance.

    Advice to Management

Get better technology to make the clerical work less time consuming.

Pay more attention to whether you're putting people on tasks that they're way over-qualified for. Also give more thought to employees' career development if you want to keep good people.

    Treat people with respect.

I worked at Magellan Aerospace full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent Pay. Always something to do. Never a boring day at Magellan. Some of the people are great good hearted people.

    Cons

A lot of negativity. Looks like the facilities are old and breaking down. Management there is at an old style of working things. The environment and work culture there is that of a pirate's ship.

    Advice to Management

Management seems to care more about themselves than the employees. Management doesn't keep their word. They say something and you never know if it'll really go down.

    Pros

Interesting and challenging product in high demand

    Cons

The leadership lacks the vision for succeeding in the 21st century

    Advice to Management

Put the much needed effort into developing a strong leadership team.

    Pros

Most co-workers are friendly. The place has air conditioning throughout. That is really all I can think of at the moment.

    Cons

Treat their workers like ignorant slaves. Prison feel to this place. No training whatsoever. You need to ask questions from co-worker who don't always don't want to help. A lot of them don't speak good English. The lead men are way to busy putting out fires to properly train you. Lack of documentation and support to do your job.
Side note: extensive drinking on the job so watch your back throughout the day that one of these intoxicated co-workers don't kill you with and overhead crane.

    Advice to Management

Get new Management. Current Bohemia Management is old and so is their thinking.
Lack of middle management connecting the shop to front end.

    Pros

Great Co-workers (other than the bad eggs). Good immediate managers. competitive pay. Great benefits. Opportunity for advancement for those who want to work hard.

    Cons

upper corporate management blames lack of raises on budget issues while obtaining record profits... Rampant negation of time savings initiatives by purposeful work slowdowns to force overtime by some employees.

    Advice to Management

FIRE people who consistently an purposely engage in work slow-downs to force overtime. This is a HUGE issue as it negates any time savings fought for by other departments.

I have been working at Magellan Aerospace (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You get to work with many talented people who are very friendly and in time get to feel like and extended part of your family

    Cons

The pay is truly embarrassing considering how much money is made daily. Spend money on unnecessary places mean while what really needs work doesn't get even a second look. People who just sit on their rears all day get payed the big bucks while their under links do their job, so much that on certain occasions they don't even know how to resolve issues that pop up in their own department. They overwork certain people and are reprimanded while some barely do anything and commit an outrageous amount of errors (mistakes ) and nothing is done about it. Certain departments have an outrageous amount of people (which are not needed) while others have barely any (and need more) and are over worked like they are not human. The benefits are ok but again cant really afford it due to the salary (for such a big company you would think they would be more competitive) People who do not know all the work it takes to sell a part for the same day just push their agendas without caring how it gets done. This place is more like a flea market than an aerospace company

    Advice to Management

Entice your employees with growth opportunities. Like everyone here says PAY THEM BETTER not just 1.50 over minimum wage. Pretty soon a lot of people will rather flip burgers than work in a machine shop, give real training to personnel not just a fly by piece of paper to read.
