    Pros

The engineering team headed by Anatola Lokshin operates a lean machine and each team member knows their duties and responsibilities.

    Cons

The only area of improvement that I can suggest is the ability to work remotely, this should be an option especially for pregnant moms.

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

The new CEO, Pierre Parent is the best chance Magellan has had in many years to actually be worth working for.

    Cons

Quality has never been a priority. Consumer products are pushed out without regard as to whether they work or not. Product leadership takes no responsibility for quality and instead blames any and all other departments. Someone needs to put a lighthouse on Magellan to keep unsuspecting good people away.

    Advice to Management

Until the company can put product quality as a priority (through results, not just promises) you have no business being in consumer electronics.

    Pros

Magellan has gone through positive changes in many parts of the company in recent months. Magellan offers great opportunities to innovate and use your skills to achieve truly great results. Sometimes there are resource issues, but because the parent company is large there are always ways to get things done and there will be many great products in the pipeline for many years.

    Cons

    Some market segments are challenging.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good changes.

    Pros

    - Ability to test "new" devices
    - Company (factory) shut-down during Christmas

    Cons

The leadership is absolutely terrible, and there is no business direction.
Don't expect to come here and innovate, because none of that exist.
No opportunity to advance, and people have been leaving the company in a rapid pace for the past few months.
Most of the time, decisions are based on financial reasons, and rarely for business reasons. This has led to an decrease in talent as there is no future in sight for anyone that can see further down the road.

    Advice to Management

Sorry, there is no hope If anything, get rid of CEO.

I worked at Magellan GPS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Magellan provides a great outside view of what they used to be like as a company, unfortunately those days are long gone
Great product ideas, very poor execution
    Finance - driven company
    No accountability
Very process driven culture, where new and creative ideas outside of system just die
Meetings and conference calls that never start on time
    Low salaries

    Cons

Company will push new products into market before testing them to make sure they work correctly leading to high return rates.
    Contentious conference calls and meetings
Constant blaming internal groups instead of fixing the broken system
Crazy work hours, since they are a Taiwanese Company, it's late nights and early mornings to speak to head office
No salary increase, bonus or COLA last 4 years

    Advice to Management

Let the people who you hire actually do their jobs and not hold them back..

Looking back on my interview - i was forced to wait 6.5 hours from my set 11 am interview time for it to begin- I should have taken this as a sign of things to come, but was gung-ho to make my mark.

I have been working at Magellan GPS full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A small number of talented individuals

    Cons

This place is full of people who are not qualified for their job. This includes the head of engineering who is clueless on how to run an engineering team.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the poor performers and those that are clearly not competent to do their jobs.
