I worked at Magellan Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The military and the families are wonderful to work with. The schools like having the extra help and are always happy the MFLC is there.

    Cons

The higher ups are dishonest and lie about benefits and salaries. The benefits changed and were lessened yearly. No raises ever. They just added more and more work and began micromanaging a position that can’t be. They don’t care about the employees at all.

    Advice to Management

Realize that there is a limited number of counselors that you can chew up and spit out before you are no longer able to fill all the positions.

I worked at Magellan Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great PTO package, opportunities to work remotely

    Cons

Disorganized upper management, disorganized approach to innovation, poor transparency

    Advice to Management

IT upper management is trying to be innovative and energetic but is quickly burning out long standing talent who are leaving with years of knowledge needed to keep the business afloat while these new innovations are built out. The approach to bringing in new technologies is disorganized and scattershot. Instead of taking a targeted approach, the new IT management is trying to do everything at once. This is discouraging to employees who are seeing things "fail rapidly" and are not being supported as they once were. Teams are being migrated to agile without proper support and coaching which is adding to the downturn in moral.

As is the case in so many of these situations, the new IT management brought with them a host of new directors, chiefs, and VPs who bring their own ideas and aren't interested in the opinions of seasoned professionals. Projects aren't being supported like they should and as such teams are racking up massive amounts of tech debt which will need to be paid off down the road.

While there have been great strides made in infrastructure improvements and production assurance, I would encourage management to take their foot off of the pedal and let the organization catch up. Choose specific targeted changes and support those changes 100% before adding on additional overhead to the teams that are already overworked. Stop the budget bleed on "startup-like" expenses like office space at innovation incubators and excessive travel and invest in the teams themselves with time and focus.

I have been working at Magellan Health full-time

    Pros

A large amount of employees work from home.
    Very relaxed environment.

    Cons

Very little tools available to do my job more efficiently.
It is important to have a job that challenges you and makes you get creative when overcoming obstacles, BUT the kind of challenges at this company is not that type of challenge. The challenges I deal with in this company has my asking myself "WHY THE HECK IS THIS A PROBLEM?!?!" It gets old very fast.

    Advice to Management

Get it together and fire people that are doing things simply because "this is what we've always done." Those people are the worst and need to go.

I worked at Magellan Health full-time

    Pros

Opportunity to work from home which saves a commute to an office . 401k , PTO given up-front every year

    Cons

Harassment from management. Stressful environment. Short breaks . Timed restroom breaks . Employees are undervalued , no advancement opportunities. Under-compensated for the amount of workload . Lack of work-life balance. Rotating weekends . No scheduling flexibility. Horrible healthcare and Short term disability benefits , which is another sign of being undervalued. Unable to use PTO because the schedule is always blocked .

    Advice to Management

Your going to lose dedicated hardworking employees who feel undervalued. Realize how important your employees are to the business , a happy experience for employees will in-return leave a happy experience on the client/customer.
