I have been working at Magellan Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

PTO. The people I work with, directly, are top of the food chain when it comes to talent. Work from home is a plus. Agile is a bonus if implemented correctly.

    Cons

Pay is very low. There is no room for advancement. Your opinion will not matter if you aren't one of the inner-circle. Work-life balance is non-existent. Long hours to cover skill deficiency and under staffed teams.

    Advice to Management

First, the IT leaders live in an echo chamber and believe they are being transparent and forthcoming with information. Unfortunately, that information is not being shared through the layers of management. Everyday feels like some twisted version of the Chinese Whispers. This gap MUST be bridged in order to find success.

Second, if you plan to make changes to the reporting structure and build teams to meet the new process improvements you must do this with efficiency. Telling someone that they have a new reporting structure, and then leaving them in limbo for 8-10 weeks adds stress to an already stressful time.

Third, speak with the employees and ask for their feedback. What you are attempting to accomplish is a tough task, but without constant, clear lines of communication you will make it nearly impossible to accomplish. For the record, Social media is NOT an alternative. That leads to derailed conversations and too many items missed. Having open dialog with all of your employees gives a sense of ownership and involvement in the sweeping changes.

    Pros

Good pay. nice building. mostly good peers. hard to come up with 20 words! good pay. no and then bonuses but not much after taxes

    Cons

You will be expected to just talk and type. not much respect from management to their employees. The health insurance benefits are not good either.

    Advice to Management

Try and give some room for call variance. font focus so much on the numbers. Show your employees some respect and show them they are valued

Bagel Friday and fruit days are nice perks. Lunch room is nice. Pot lucks are good team building activities. People are generally nice.

    Cons

Benefits are very expensive. Atmosphere is negative. Too few appropriate employees and way too many executives. Executives are remote and do not engage or visit home site.

I have been working at Magellan Health full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

A job here is better than being unemployed. The PTO is generous compared to most other companies and many jobs allow you to work remotely most if not all of the time.

    Cons

If you accept a job offer, you'll quickly be frustrated with inefficient processes, outdated and ineffective technology and departments that refuse to work together, always "pushing back" on requests because of limited or no resources. Most department store aren't staffed appropriately to meet customer requirements. Check out how many major customers have not renewed their contracts over the last several years. This should tell you something, the customers go to better companies or do it themselves, because Magellan doesn't have technology and infrastructure in place that is capable of doing what the customer needs/wants.

When you find a great co worker who really wants to get work done, there are roadblocks because you're dependent on other teams for whom your request is not a priority. If one or both coworkers work from home, there is not technology in place to collaborate, even as simple as sharing screens with Skype for Business or a similar tool. Again, very outdated technology. Most folks who occasionally work from home use personal laptops to remote into their office desktops, ineffective and outdated.

If you come from a company that invests in and supports their workers, you'll be frustrated because you won't find that here. You're just a warm body who is a resource to do the task at hand. Management is so stressed out and overworked / burdened that they don't have any incentive or time to make good employees better. They all lack the foresight for investing in their most valuable way of growing the company into the future.

As someone else said, "it's not in the budget" is the default for-to reason for saying No to any thing that might make getting the work done more effective and efficient.

Oh, they only offer two high-deductible health plans with HSA. Look elsewhere if you need good health insurance.

    Advice to Management

I stopped giving advice a year or more ago, they pretend to be all attentive to your suggestion or idea, and then it goes into the circular file.

I have been working at Magellan Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefit package is fair and competitive in today's market. We are given a great deal of autonomy in performing our job. Support from middle management is good.

    Cons

Absolutely no progression available. Holidays are NOT paid. PTO is half of what other companies pay. While working a school rotation, all the scheduled days off are unpaid. Administratively, contacting and working with HR in impossible. Sometimes, taking weeks to receive feedback. Payroll consistently makes errors in paying.

    Advice to Management

To keep qualified, professionals in these positions attention to compensation and PTO need to be addressed. There are no incentives to remain with the company.
