    Pros

    Acts like a startup, innovative

    Cons

Is not a startup, growth limited by opportunistic and short sighted mgmt behavior.

    Pros

As an Engineer, Magma is a good place to work. Adequate challenges and it's a complex piece of software. Lots of scope to become a good coder.

    Cons

EDA as such is not booming. So, don't expect too much growth. Fourth in the field, so there's constant pressure to perform.

  4. "Hectic work, company small enough that you can make a difference, NO respect for employees"

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

    - It's small enough you can make a difference
    - good career growth if you can fight you way up (small company but lots of politics)
    - good pay (but bonus is pretty much not funded)
    - aggressive CEO is a plus (but also a minus...)

    Cons

    - Magma used to have an edge, now lost with the top engineers gone
    - lots of work, long hours, changing target every quarter
    - If you are an engineer in the US, chance is that you will be eventually outsourced to India.
    - the CEO, Rajeev Madhavan, runs the company like it belongs to him. He made a lots of strategic mistake, acquiring companies w/o any business outlook, disregarding feedback from tech-savvy people, wasting a few $100M's that would have been better invested in Magma's R&D. His authority is not balanced by the board that he has in his pocket. Rajeev is a crook keeping the company afloat thanks to his "charm".
    - the senior exec level's main job is to deflect issues onto their subordinates so that they can keep their well-paid jobs
    - lots of layoffs, threatening environment, no ethical culture, employees treated like meat, therefore there is zero loyalty to the company

    Advice to Management

    - replace senior execs!
    - respect employees
    - discounting tools will only slow down Magma's death, and hurts EDA as a whole. Innovate!
    - Magms's bread-and-butter is still P&R, move the whole thing in India to cut cost
    - invest in high-flying engineer talents in US and India to design innovative tools and solutions

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

The people are great to work with and learn from.

    Cons

Silent performers are not rewarded, one has to be in the lime light to gain recognition.
Salaries can vary hugely amongst same level co-workers based on no good reason.

    Advice to Management

Employee retention should be given its due importance by means of competitive compensation amongst other things such as improving employee benefits.

    Pros

Exciting technology, top notch talent pool and good knowledge sharing

    Cons

u have to slog a lot

    Advice to Management

identify potential leaders and groom them, was very ambitious and expanded into too many areas too fast..should have better vision and execution strategy...

    Pros

The compensation and benefits are good. I found by hear say and salary checks that in general the salary is better. The heath insurance pays for almost anything but a lot of times you will be on the phone talking to someone to make sure that they actually pay what they are supposed to pay.

    Cons

The company had layoffs recently. The work is good but at the same time it is a small company fighting bigger companies for market share. They will probably get out of this rut sooner or later but with the layoffs you have to wonder if other rounds are to follow.

    Advice to Management

Senior management needs to get more R&D resources for core products.

I worked at Magma Design full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Employees were approachable and knowledgeable, Flexible work hours, Good management, good work culture, paid well

    Cons

Was a small company, so at times, I was required to work more than the number of hours per week mentioned in the offer letter. My role was in testing and I didn't get to learn as much I would had expected to.

    Pros

Neither manager nor senior employee are good in helping sub ordinates. There is a big difference in pay from team to teams.
