I worked at Magna International full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

They pay on time and the checks clear.

    Cons

This company is structured based on a military industrial style. It follows strict hierarchy and creates pyramid structures for you to follow - and they expect you to follow it with no exception. With that said, your every effort to save the company time, money and grief will never be acknowledged if they guy above you is too afraid to bring it to his bosses attention - they function on fear. You are not human - they believe in money. Ironically, this company is the best example of a corporation stepping over dollars to pick up pennies. You will learn to hate it.

    Advice to Management

    None.

I worked at Magna International (More than a year)

    Pros

Clean, well lighted working environment. Close to home. Good starting wage.

    Cons

I was there as a manpower temp. I worked there a year. I was high on the list for hire in. However I needed to have a major surgery and they said they would hold my seniority placement on the hire in list if I only took 2 weeks off . My Dr wanted me to take a month, but I couldn't afford to do that. I had medical clearance to return at 2 weeks, only to work 1 week and they let me go by not asking me to return the following week. They did not keep their word at all. Also if a work cell had issues and they needed their parts, you had to stay OT until the order was met. They would not keep you past 12 hours. No level of professionalism. Temps treated poorly.

    Advice to Management

Hire Supervisors and HR reps who honor their word.

    Pros

    Before the change in management:

    Plenty of over-time opportunities
    Team was very competent

    Cons

    After change in managment:

Very cut throat in terms of pay.
Will force you to work after hours and weekends
    No appreciation of hard work.
Extremely toxic environment from supporting engineers to senior IT support
Always push-back when trying to implement positive changes
Unprofessional treatment coming from management and threats of termination
Lack of keeping promises and would rather extend your contract until the your assigned job is done and terminate you afterwards.
No training or furthering your career goals.
Always felt stagnant and never going forward in my IT career
    Very arrogant TM's and seniors

    Advice to Management

I advise training and reviewing of upper management, otherwise a complete rework and restructure of management.

    Pros

Good money. Job is fairly easy.

    Cons

The management does not care about what is going on. They just want the job done. Not worrying about emergencies or sickness. You get treated unfairly.

    Advice to Management

Better communication with employees. Care about what is going on.

I worked at Magna International as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

There was always a high demand for parts which led to plenty of overtime.

    Cons

Overtime is not always voluntary. Always plan on working 6 days and possibly 7 days a week. Safety is a concern because there are so many ways to be hurt in the facility and all the machinery drivers are not the most attentive.

    Pros

Tell you anything to get in the door.

    Cons

Worst management in the industry. Work long hours including weekends. Head of program management has a dictator style. This is reflected and rewarded by the president. Purchasing department has the image of Men's Warehouse. Engineering is led by inexperienced and arrogance.

    Advice to Management

    Start over!

HR ladies listen to complaints but nothing gets done, so don't bother!

    Cons

The people here are down right mean & nasty from the coworkers to the supervisors! The company wants to work the employees 7 days a week, 12 hour shifts. Nothing but unhappy nasty people here! They don't let you learn the job! Beware!

    Advice to Management

    Take a course in management!

I have been working at Magna International full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Working at Cosma will prepare you for a great job

    Cons

Politics are horrendous, favoritism, though not allowed in the so called Magna charter, is how promotions are set. Never mind if you are more qualified , have more schooling, or launched more programs..... If you are not a complete blatant suck up, you might as well look elsewhere. Place isn't like it used to be....gone are all the tool maker and hands on managers

    Advice to Management

Bring back the hands on managers, dump all the chart makers that only show the past trends. Get rid of all the butt kissers, as they haven't truly worked a day in their life... You tell by the palms of their hands
