    Pros

Flexible hours, pay is better than
    Most places start out

    Cons

Training is horrible and managers talk to other co workers about other co workers negatively and bully like-
We have to use our own sick time for holiday pay which lost companies pay you to have it off themselves

    Advice to Management

There is a reason that there is a high turnover rate. Treat your employees good and they will be good to you

    Pros

I loved it here at MGMC. As a moderate sized community hospital, I feel as if the care we provided was exceptional! Did it pay the best, no, were benefits stellar, no, But I've got to say, that hospital had the best darn group of physicians and nurses that I've ever had the pleasure of working with . We're we short-staffed? Sure, who isn't, but you always could count on your team to have your back... I miss my team at MGMC!

    Cons

Benefits could be better! The staff segregation for parking is a bit silly... I bought into the 'green parking' until I saw all the docs and their luxury SUV's parking out in the 'green' lot.

    Advice to Management

Reward your veteran staff when you're giving sign on bonuses to the newer staff.

I have been working at MaineGeneral Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The patient and cafeteria food is excellent for a hospital.

    Cons

Employee health insurance has very high deductible, very high cost from paycheck and high annual out of pocket cap.
A tremendous amount of middle management that are absent from their offices a lot because they are forced to attend many unnecessary meetings.

    Advice to Management

Consolidate MaineGeneral with a prestigious healthcare organization and cut duplicate services such as billing, IT, purchasing and top management team.

    Pros

Education-- take all the classes & get all the certifications you can and then run, because you won't get paid for your experience & knowledge there.

    Cons

Pay sucks. Benefits suck. Management sucks. You are not supported as an employee here. It's like working for the popular clique in high school. Don't get involved with the politics. Don't get conned into join a committee, your opinions are not valued, and they'd rather not hear them anyway. Seriously, anywhere is better than MaineGen.

    Advice to Management

Get it together. Even senior management is seeing high turn over right now. That has to tell you something... support your staff & fight for them.

    Pros

Career advancement opportunities, depending on the manager...flexibility in balancing work/life

    Cons

High cost of health insurance (both premiums and deductibles)

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to put a "spin" on the health benefits...the truth is that they are not affordable unless you are highly compensated. Try being transparent for once.

I have been working at MaineGeneral Health full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I have been with this company for nearly a decade, and after spending many years prior in other healthcare firms in the area this one was - and still is - one of the very best healthcare employers in the Central Maine region (and arguably, the entire State!). The organization spends a great deal of time and resources on doing what it takes to be the premier provider of healthcare to the community, as evidenced by the major investment a few years ago in building a state of the art hospital, opening earlier than planned. Senior management is exceptional at listening to staff's ideas and incorporating them when feasible. I feel valued as an employee and appreciate that level of support. The recent outstanding Joint Commission audit is another positive example of the positive trajectory this organization is on! I have changed jobs internally three times since coming to MaineGeneral (each one involving more responsibility). Because I believe in professional growth and have worked hard to improve my skills and knowledge I have been afforded opportunity to grow with the organization. Anyone here can do the same thing with some personal drive and determination to better themselves.

    Cons

Every business has pros and cons, but MaineGeneral does not have any cons in my opinion that rise to the level of a major concern.

    Advice to Management

You're on the right track!! Healthcare is a notoriously challenging environment to work in. With an employee base of a few thousand there are always going to be issues and day to day conflicts and challenges to overcome. The day to day issues are to be expected when it involves prioritizing patient care needs and balancing that with employee needs. MaineGeneral does it extremely well, and I encourage management to "stay the course". Work on engagement. Get better at strategic decision-making. Don't stop learning and don't stop listening to employees.
