I have been working at Makerbot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

From the dark times this company went through in 2015, things have certainly turned around and the overall experience working here has improved dramatically. MakerBot put a stronger focus on People & Culture in 2016 and office amenities as well as company events have improved. Compared to a year+ old review you'll find, working for this company is no longer bleak.

    Cons

Pay is still a bit below industry averages, but there is always room for upwards mobility and supervisors/managers are always in your corner to write you a positive review should you eventually look for a job elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Continue to put the employees first, enable more work-life balance and continue to foster a team first mentality that has each team "all-in" for MakerBot.

I have been working at Makerbot (More than a year)

    Pros

Great co-workers who are very helpful, awesome environment / very good work atmosphere.

    Cons

Difficult to work with other departments, no communication, projects don't tend to be thought out correctly.

    "Glad I worked there"

    Pros

Awesome people, crazy schedules ---- amazing experience. Everything moved so fast and it was often hard to keep up. In retrospect, there are many things that at the time were very frustrating, but today, I have been able to see the tremendous benefit that the experience has had on my own personal growth. If you could succeed here, you could succeed anywhere.

    Cons

It was not a very lucrative engagement for most managers and individual contributors. In fact most folks were drastically underpaid for industry standards. After it was all over with and the merger with SSYS was complete, it seems folks scattered like cockroaches for their own benefit. Collaboration and team work shifted towards protecting one's own area, and building a perception of productivity, rather than 'showing your work'

I worked at Makerbot as an intern

    Pros

Fast paced and driven environment. Good mentorship and responsibilities given to interns. Good sized teams and pay.

    Cons

Noticeably shaky cultural environment. The recent layoffs and ceo changes created a tense feeling. Always felt like things were happening behind closed doors. Lots of people left.

    Advice to Management

Be a bit more honest and a bit more kind. Also don't have all the women sit together at the back of the office. That was weird.

I worked at Makerbot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The work environment emulates Bay Area companies with classic benefit staples like ping pong, pool, snacks, etc. Each department is pretty small, so there's lots of opportunity to take on responsibility, learn as much as you want, and become the master of your domain. If you're into 3D printing, this is a good place to be.

    Cons

There's unusually high turnover in the upper ranks of the company, which leads to perpetual disorganization and poor direction. Compensation and benefits have always been an issue.

    Advice to Management

Remember that many of the employees at MakerBot are the target market. Leverage the collective talent and intelligence of the group!

    Pros

Overall, MakerBot hosts a well-balanced atmosphere. With the feel of a start-up, but with the resources of a well-established player, the environment breeds creative collaboration between departments. But the right sort of collaboration, where departments are at least conscious of how their initiatives will directly/indirectly impact other teams.

    Cons

Nothing that immediately comes to mind. The company is in a nurturing phase, focusing on orienting itself to the right market, but I believe that's to be expected with any new consumer-facing technology.

    Advice to Management

Be a bit more involved and set the right expectations from the get-go. Acknowledge the uncontrollables, from an employee's standpoint and breed a more entrepreneurial culture to allow the great ideas to naturally stand out.

    Cons

Going through 3D printing post-hype hangover causing various troubles

    Advice to Management

Keep listening, take the long view and don't give in to day to day pressures from the industry, keep working with education and investing in the educational market

I have been working at Makerbot (Less than a year)

    Pros

-The People. Smart, young, energetic, driven, talented, cooperative, helpful, friendly. Very little siloing, strife, unhealthy competition, incompetence.
-The Industry. Our product is changing the way the next generation will interact with the world around them. It makes a difference.
    -Great location, offices, space.
-Stable operations with globalized systems in place.
    -Work Life Balance

    Cons

Mistakes in MakerBot's past remain challenging.
Unclear long-term strategy makes this a Quarter-by-Quarter game
    Too stable?
