I worked at Malibu Beach Inn (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Awesome views and great place to work during college.

    Cons

The valet manager was a joke when I was there but all of the management recently got restructured so you should be good.

I worked at Malibu Beach Inn part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Gorgeous beach
    Wonderful coworkers
    Famous clientele
    Occasional large tips

    Cons

    Management unaware of incompetent supervisors
Fire employees and don't dislose reason
Punished hostess for relationship with chef; chef gets promoted

    Advice to Management

Spend time in the restaurant and see your supervisors in action. They panic under pressure and can't resolve conflict. Train hostesses instead of pairing them with a server to learn. Stop the favoritism, it's disgusting.

    Pros

Incredible location to call "your office", competitive benefits package, a mostly well-mannered clientele, and ability to maintain a work-life balance.

    Cons

This certainly isn't a dealbreaker, but during my time there the employee meals were quite unhealthy. Also, the kitchen is too small to handle both, the dining room and in-room dining capacity.

    Advice to Management

Please continue to look into expansion of kitchen area, and healthier meals for employees. Furthermore, something certainly needs to be done about the paper thin walls. Finally, perhaps it's time to revisit the uniforms.

I worked at Malibu Beach Inn full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Mostly great clientele. However, some where untitled, but you were rarely undertipped or worked late hours. Very beautiful atmosphere.

    Cons

Once the property sold to Mani Brothers, the establishment lost its "come one come all" charm. There was a lot of micromanagement and unqualified staff hired to coach staff who was already familiar with the quirks of the establishment.

    Advice to Management

The benefits and everything were great. However, maybe you should look within for leadership on the dining from. The property is very unique. You aren't running a BOA or Mastro's. There are many components that only senior staff know how to handle, yet are discouraged by management.

I worked at Malibu Beach Inn full-time

    Pros

Colleagues across all departments are some of the best that you will find anywhere; most don't live nearby, but pull early mornings, late nights, and overtime/holidays depending on the hotel's needs. Pay was decent (i.e. they gave me what I originally asked for) and a good place for recent college grads like myself to gain work experience.

    Cons

Limited benefits (e.g. only medical); no employee parking (not even valet can park their cars on property), making it very easy and even common for employees to get ticketed for minor traffic violations; currently undergoing transition of ownership.

    Advice to Management

There is a way to get your staff to listen and respect you, but cowing them into submission is not it. Treat people right and it'll come around to you.

    Pros

The luxury property is beach front so your view all day is nice. Most guests are friendly and the weather is always beautiful.

    Cons

The compensation and benefits package leaves much to be desired. The only place you can eat on your 30 min break is a table in the parking lot next to the trash cans. I often had to fight off birds.

    Advice to Management

Develop your staff more and be more open to incorporating staff feedback. Growth opportunities are the key to longevity.
