    Pros

Excellent pay, great co-workers. Excellent for ppl looking to move into law enforcement or security. Can be a career type job, if desired.

I worked at Mall of America part-time

    Pros

Discounts everywhere, food and retail goods. If someone was feeling nice, they'd bring some food in or on special occasions HR would give out some food.

    Cons

Management. The management in Guest services is terrible. You have 5 times you can "call out" the whole year, this counts from anything from your car not working, you being sick, mental health issues with you OR your family. I quit, frankly due to the STRICT rules they have with attendance. For $11 I'd scoff at the idea of these people HOLDING my job over me if i did have something important to take care of.

    Advice to Management

Take some classes on management, get to know your staff and who actually works for you. Every single one of your employee's are scared whenever they come into your office.

    Pros

Free rides & wristband for friends and family.
Mall employees discounts through out the mall.
Discounts with company's out side the mall (shows ,events ,hotels, ect)
    Great experience
If you can work here you can handle all walks of life. (Great diversity)
    On the bus line
    Can always move up
Great place to have on your resume
    40lk & PTO
    OVER TIME ALWAYS AVAILABLE

    Cons

Weekend & night hours required 2 weekend shifts at least one being a evenings or close shift.
    Parking
    Lines
    Rude customers
Public speaking (your talking to at least 30 people at a times)
Low starting wage, low % rase after years
Leaning new jobs at a slow rate

    Advice to Management

Do not just hire anyone, pre screen before hiring and training . Have people shadow 30-60mins after first interview. Then shadow a week before training on actual ride. test if people really are ready for this job. Don't just waste time training people that do not really know what this job entails. It is more the just pushing bottom or buckling seat belts. Often people don't realize that till after we have wasted a week or 2 training. I enjoyed the team lead training in the beginning learning alot about the mall is all great. Just have time for screening before you tell all the mall facts. Just be more up front about the job in the beginning. Once people are past the 6 months , train on all the rides would help the whole park out if everyone knows more rotations then 2.

I have been working at Mall of America part-time

    Pros

Really friendly work environment! The people there are high school age mostly, but some are in their late 20's. It's a laid back fun work place. They also offer benefits like helping to pay for college and a 401k.

    Cons

Although working in the position you are, there is very little forgiveness in making critical safety errors which result in instant termination, like forgetting to buckle in the guest before they ride. Very little room to none for making some errors.

    Pros

You learn something for the first 2 months

The electricians and park maintenance staff are cool

    Cons

    Terrible hours

    No consistency in hours

Every job that is worth working, the supervisor contracts another company

    Supervisor lies

Upper management doesn't care about you

Last minute pop ups that you are expected to be available for.

Supervisor hires a company for less than 3 mics... then lies and says it's a liability issue

    Advice to Management

Find a supervisor who doesn't lie

Treat employees like they are people and not make them miss thanksgiving and other holidays

I have been working at Mall of America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    The pros are endless:
    - tuition reimbursement
    - opportunities for overtime
    - several incentive programs
    - company matches 401k up to 5%
    - great benefits; free life + vision
    - supportive team
    - entire corporate team in house
    - social committee events; team member ride night, MOA's birthday, team member appreciation week
    - free rides at Nickelodeon Universe
    - quarterly wristbands for friends + family (16/year)
    - snacks (lots of expired soda)
    - fun work
    - opportunities for development
    - mentor-ship programs

    Cons

    - working nights + weekends is required
    - low pay for industry/level of guest interaction + expectations
    - short staffing
'- underdeveloped training + lack of training resources
    - very strict grooming policies (no tattoos, colored hair, facial piercings)
    - high stress
    - constant guest interaction
    - parking is a hassle
    - MOA is a mission
    - guests can be very mean
    - inconsistent messages from management

    Advice to Management

Please reconsider the policies that hold people back. Take grooming for example? I've seen so many good employees slip through HR interviews and job offers - to show up for their first shift with tattoos on their faces or obvious piercings. And we can't blame HR - this person is exactly what we're looking for, they are friendly + interactive, they showed up on time and prepared, and they are excited to join our team! And now I am the bad guy. "Is that a tattoo on your face? What about your finger? Uhh...wow. I need to call my supervisor." One phone call and five minutes later, and they could be punching out and turning in their badge. They may not even know where to pick up their first (and last) paycheck.

    Is it worth it?

And training, that's another thing. We speak so often of how we want to build futures for our employees. We encourage them to stay, take opportunities, and try to advance. But do people see we're struggling to build them a base? They are basically pushed from their job offer into this big scary world of MOA. We have been so short staffed, I have literally had to call team members and try to positively explain why their training may be postponed for two weeks depending on staffing, but we still expect them to come in and work for other departments. Now, I think we are all generally positive people - but it's so hard in those times. But we've got to find a way. We are not building a sustainable program.

I want to see investment. I want to see MOA dedicate a space to training. It would actually be really cool. Like a slick MOA lounge. Free fountain drinks, VIP access, like in mall common space. Everyone would want to work there! Wow. I'm kinda excited I thought of this now. But really - more importantly than a lounge or something (it's still v important, though) I really would like to see a focus on training each employee with care. We should all have a network of support within our team - and most of our front line staff will never have that experience. Management team, I know you guys feel it. The genuine love, friendship, and support you've experienced from the team at MOA...not everyone has that. But I think that's what makes employees become management and its what makes every single one of us become a team. We need to find ways to build that.

Maybe it's requiring some kind of mandatory training, event, or function each week - maybe it's a lounge - maybe it's budgeting some more money to support our trainers (guuuuys they get paid the same as everyone else but are expected to do so much more AND they are constantly viewed as leaders, title or not). But we need to focus on this conversation. This is what will build our business and transform MOA into something unlike anything else. It's like 15 levels up from where we are now - but I know we can do it.

    Pros

The team members at MOA are great, you find some very hard workers and people who are nice to be around. There are a lot of unique experiences throughout the day and usually something to do when it is slow.

    Cons

The pay is not good. A lot of very good people are very underpaid and they cannot figure out why they are understaffed.

    Advice to Management

Recognize the hard work your team members do and pay them more. A lot of companies pay their team members significantly more for the same job.
