I have been working at Manhattan Associates full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people Manhattan hires are amazing. From top-to-bottom, they are some of the nicest and fun people I've met in the professional world. When it comes to work-life balance, I feel I've gotten the better side of this than some in other divisions...I guess that's the difference between operations and administration. CSO/PSO travel and have to support clients...it's the nature of the job to work a bit longer and stay overnight out of state. As a global company, calls come in at all hours of the day...can't help that. But, when it comes to compensation and environment, I think it caters to those in PSO/CSO well.

    Cons

The recent layoff was bad, yes, and caught everyone by surprise. But with the changes in the business and product line, changes needed to be made in order to secure the success of the business's new initiatives. When people get laid off, they are hurt by it, obviously, and the company didn't want to do it...it's a publically traded business...simple as that. Additionally, the benefits are great, but the vacation policy is lacking.

    Advice to Management

Give more vacation, receive better reviews on Work/Life Balance. More vacation time doesn't mean less productivity...it's insane to think that way. Compete with the other software companies in town on this front better. Additionally, more amenities for younger crowds would be ideal. Ping-Pong tables, study groups for certifications/technologies, some beer every now and then...little things that can provide employees a release or a way to break up the day a bit more would go a long way in the productivity of these employees when at their desk. If gives them something to work towards other than money/bonus. It's cheap and easy...yet the return is amazing. Work from home would be nice 2-4 times a month as well...at a minimum. For a tech company...this is a no-brainer.

    Pros

    1. Supply chain is a great domain to be in. Manhattan Associates is a financially stable company, so you can be confident about keeping your job if you are meeting performance standards, and if you are not being paid too much.

    2. The cost of living in Atlanta is lower compared to other software hubs like Seattle, Boston and Silicon Valley.

    Cons

    1. Uninspiring leadership in software engineering. Most managers director-level and above are smart but lack leadership skills. Some resort to unnecessary pressure tactics to get work done. As a result, employees lack enthusiasm and do not take pride in their work, leading to quality issues and frustration for all concerned.

    2. Benefits and compensation are only average.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on genuine employee satisfaction and morale. President's Club is not the answer. Customer satisfaction will follow employee satisfaction

    Pros

Manhattan Associates is a good place to work for a first job out of college, but I wouldn't recommend staying there from more than 2 or 3 years.

    Cons

For consultants, there is a punitive amount of travel and I don't think there is a clear path to advancement that corresponds with consultants' abilities. For technical people, Manhattan Associates is horrible for your career. They are late implementing the latest tools and they aren't assisting their current technical staff in making the migration from C++ to Java or .NET.

    Advice to Management

They need to concentrate of employee mentorship and development. There have been mentoring programs in the past but they did not work because no real mentoring came of them. There should be more pressure from the to to enforce employee guidance and training.

    Pros

Lots of smart people - MANH has some of the smartest and hard working people I've ever encountered in technology
    Interesting problems to solve

    Cons

Work Environment - There are very long hours, with almost no appreciation for he extra work that needed. I once worked on a project that had 5 straight weeks of 80+ hour weeks, and didn't even receive as much as a thank you for the extra work getting the release completed.

    Advice to Management

Do not treat your employees as replaceable building blocks. Let them know when they're doing a good job, and make sure that they're able to have a life outside of their office.

    Pros

Competitive Salary and WMS is best of Breed.

    Cons

Poor Management that neglects employees to meet the businesses bottomline.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees better. They are constantly being burned out and lied to by managment.

    Pros

Some of the people I worked with early on and who have since moved on were great to work with. Since then the company is in no mood to hire new people and those who are coming in are mostly incompetent, since no one wants to board a sinking ship.

    Cons

    1. No recognition
    2. Very poor compensation
    3. Indian management - Most managers in R&D and services are Indian, and when it comes to employee recognition and growth they have no clue what to do.
    4. Long hours, work is adhoc, primitive technologies contrary to what they claim
    5. Poor code base
    6. Very reactive s/w development efforts, almost everyone is exclusively working on bugs. New work is limited in scope as a result.

    Advice to Management

    1. A greater emphasis needs to be put into employee growth
    2. Employee compensation should also increase, inflation is more than the annual increments
    3. Benefits are poor
    4. Remove incompetent managers

    Pros

It is a job and you do get paid. The office building is nice and the gym is also nice and affordable.

    Cons

The culture is awful. I worked in the development group and was in the sever minority as an American. Most of the people are from India and really have no desire to associate with Americans. A friend of mine who is Indian used to work with me at Manhattan and he told me people would ask him all of the time what he talked to me about.
If you worked in the development group you were expected to work 6 days a week. If you don't you are looked down upon. If you leave work before 7 you are also looked down upon and admonished by your manager.
I have never experienced such a horrible work environment and a company that doesn't care about their employees as much as Manhattan.

    Advice to Management

Fix the culture in development. Don't trap people in their jobs with a visa tied just to that company.

I have been working at Manhattan Associates full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company benefits are good , Salary is as per market but have to negotiate

    Cons

Worst working environment, Typical service company like work, No career growth, Don't join if you have any other option

    Advice to Management

Identify some better performance management so retain talent. Don't hire USA people if you can not give growth. All growth limited to India transfer employee.
