    - Government Jobs, mostly military bases
    - Pay is on the higher end

    Cons

    - Communication is horrible
    - Quality control does not exist
    - Integrity issues within management, lie, lie, lie,
    - Finger pointers, very good at twisting things around after being directed, Not stand up guys!!!!!
    - Sexual Harassment is off the chart, but always sweep under the rug!!!!
    - If you are not in there circle of friends, or a family member you can forget about moving up the ladder.
    - a very negative atmosphere most of the time

    Advice to Management

Manhattan was a great company, but in the last few years everything seems to be headed nowhere fast, my advise regroup, restructure and mentor the people you still have, and most importantly be accountable!!!!!

I have been working at Manhattan Construction (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Upper Managements acknowledge your strength and put into use.

    Cons

Seems to be a click in different groups.

    Pros

The salaries are competitive for the markets they are in. If you fit in culturally, you have a lot of opportunities to succeed.

There are a lot of solid builders with tenure in the company.

    Cons

The company is understaffed at best - from their projects to their offices. Because of this, work-life balance is absolutely nonexistent.

They have an entire layer of management just below the company president that contributes zero to the bottom line, and then they consistently try to find ways to eliminate overhead in marketing, business development, and preconstruction - the people who actually procure the work.

Technology is grudgingly implemented (poorly) to keep up with the companies who know how to embrace it.

There's a sink-or-swim mentality as it comes to training. Since everyone is so busy, it's hard to find people who really want to mentor new employees regardless of experience.

    Advice to Management

Put more resources and faith into the people who do the work - not into the umpteen vice presidents. Micromanagement is the quickest way to get people to disrespect you, because they feel like they're constantly being told what to do and how to do it. You have a talented group of builders, some of whom are better than you at it. Relying on their knowledge and expertise will get people to WANT to work hard for you.

I have been working at Manhattan Construction full-time

    Pros

I have worked for some other GC's and can say that this company has excellent processes and procedures and takes pride in performing at a high level. Being the largest company I have worked for, I feared the possibility of feeling like a "number," but the divisions do a decent job of keeping things intimate. Some of the best builders in the industry work here, so there is plenty of experience to lean on when things get difficult on a project.

    Cons

Old school in building practices and culture, which means most of their procedures are very tight and well tested. It can also mean working a little less efficiently & sometimes longer hours. Seems like there are some "shake-ups" at the highest level of management & corporate levels as leadership is transitioning, but it hasn't affected the day-to-day operations of the company. Time will tell.

    Advice to Management

I would recommend more face time and direct communication from the upper management to the field personnel. Not necessarily one-on-one sit downs, but more like stopping by each project trailer once a month and making the rounds in everyone's office to get some face time. Other than that, keep up the quality work and thank you for the opportunity.
