I worked at Manitowoc Co. full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people, collaborative atmosphere, high quality products, respected brands.

    Cons

Weak management. Too many new executives who are friends of the CEO but don't understand the Cranes business. Strategy is to shrink the company to success; not very inspiring. Too many capable committed employees have been laid off due to leadership missteps. I would discourage people from joining this company.

    Advice to Management

Develop a clear vision of an attractive future beyond rightsizing. Quit blaming outside conditions and look internally for the source of your problems.

    Treated very well.
Mid-Level management is really trying to improve things.

    Cons

Engineering and Quality take a back seat to production numbers.
Money is wasted at an astronomical rate.

    Advice to Management

Focus on engineering, Quility, and not wasting so much.

    Pros

Generally the people I worked with were great. The pay was competitive and good benefits. There was room to move up and mostly a positive environment.

    Cons

Off site management. I feel this doesn't allow for open communication and good moral. Difficult to make informed decisions 1000 miles away.

    Pros

Aside from the employees who work to maintain relationships outside the work environment, the management work to maintain staff through fluctuations in sales.

    Cons

The only con I can think of are the hierarchy loopholes you have to go through to get anything completed, but that is expected with any corporation.

    Advice to Management

None I can think of, great leaders there.

I worked at Manitowoc Co. (More than 8 years)

    Pros

First, lets be clear, The Manitowoc Company does not have anything to do with Food Service equipment anymore. The company was split back in March 2016. Also, Glen Tellock is no longer the CEO, Barry Pennypacker is the new President and CEO.

There were many pros at one time, but those have all gone away it seems. It was a wonderful place to work where people where dedicated to serving customers, but ignorance and wall street intervened.

    Cons

    1) There is no consistent strategy except cut your way to profitability. That is a bad strategy and will end in failure.

    2) Honesty no longer is tolerated at Manitowoc. Promises are made then forgotten.

    3) The new leadership does not seem to understand the products or services Manitowoc offers.

    4) The company is ruled through cliques, so if are not in one, you are out.

    5) Finally, the same staff that guided the ship into its current condition are the same ones guiding it today.

    Advice to Management

Establish a firm and understandable strategy. Drop the double speak and be honest. Take a long look as to why you are where you are and then fix it, unless the real intention is to not fix it. Finally, always remember, your company is only as good as the people who make it up.

If I was asked to recommend Manitowoc Company to someone, I could not. There are many other companies to join that appreciate employees. I hope things change, but now is not the time to risk your career.

People were great and enjoyed my work. A lot of talented people that were always will to help in any way.

The company cared about people for many years until now. It is all about making money no matter how many people then need to step on to make the bottom numbers.

    Advice to Management

on site managers are great until they have to answer to top level management then they all become yes men no matter whey
