I worked at Manna full-time (More than 5 years)
Laid-back atmosphere (non-profit).
Friendly co-workers, family environment.
The area has seen recent developments.
Walking distance from metro.
Paid full medical and dental insurance coverage for everything.
There are loyal employees who have been there for decades.
Salary is no where near market value.
There was a salary freeze for a few years.
Management's vision was stagnant at the time. I hear it has changed since then, hopefully for the better.
401K wasn't being matched for a few years.
Heavily dependent on government grants, so the housing market crashing really impacted the organization.
No room for growth.
Advice to Management
I know it's tough to be a non-profit in this economy when those you are helping are low-income families. However, the valuable employees in your talent pool will leave due to lack of opportunities to progress one's career and move up within the organization coupled with sub-par compensation. Also, there should be input from all level of the organization on how to move the company forward and up. New blood is always good to consider or old wisdom.
