    Pros

I cannot think of anything positive to say about Manulife Asset Management Operations division.

    Cons

Please stay away from support oriented operations if you can. Most of the men are in their late 30's or 40's and some of them are just sleazy, look at women in a sleazy manner, with some wearing gold chains, and look and act like they could be a side kick in some God Father movie. Others, think they still work in 1990's corporate American with very alpha male attitude. Women, what can I say, some of them are very helpful, others are just nasty, gossipy, two faced, chornic complainers and vicious. The worst part is that management turns a blind eye and even encourages gossip and back stabbing. That said, there are other aspects of operatiosn that are actually good. For example, IT,compliance, marketing, sales and product development teams are superb! Ask to be taken around, if you interview and any position that provides day to day assistance or provides client oriented services like doing paper work for analysts, portfolio managers, client reporting, boarding stay away. I understand that you cannot attract the highly educated, and intelligent people to such positions but don't start hiring people who might be a potential liability to your firm.

    Pros

    Great team environment amongst coworkers.

    Cons

Management is terrible. Focus on wrong measuring sticks - making it less client driven and more matrix driven.

    Advice to Management

Restructure what is important for the business.

I have been working at Manulife full-time

    Pros

    Flexible Schedules
    Tech Lounge
    Great Microsoft training classes
    Coworkers

    Cons

Lack of clear communication and direction from management
Promotions based on politics not skill sets
AVP's and directors constantly play the blame game and cost people their jobs to keep their own
    Management is not trustworthy
Working on trying to figure out how to increase employee morale for 7 years now

    Advice to Management

Used to be a great company to work for. Investment Division Senior Management should clean house for the AVP's and Directors that don't have the skill sets for their role and that bully and treat employees like animals. There are so many horrific AVP's and Directors in the Investment Division that lack ALL ethics and mistreat employees.

    Pros

Training was thorough, a great background for any Benefit related position

    Cons

Internal Chaos with so many mergers, there's a huge need to reconstruct and align the systems
Management can't keep Front end CSR's. My training group had 11 people, and after 3 months, only 5 were left. Turnover was horrible.
Absenteeism was also horrible. Every Monday, at least a dozen people would be "sick" since it was the busiest day.

    Advice to Management

Remove the 12 months in the same position rule. If it would've been 6 months, I would still be working with your company.

    Pros

Decent vacation time to start, lots of different paths to choose from (individual life, group benefits and wealth management, to name a few)

    Cons

There is a lot of turnover. I don't know who has posted such glowing reviews, they certainly aren't from my area. People with the least amount of experience are promoted over people with the most knowledge, and there is a lot of work being moved overseas, so for the majority of employees, this is not a company to retire with, as your job is more likely than not going to be outsourced at some point. Our shares tanked 2 years ago, and seem to have never recovered.

    Advice to Management

Promote the right people, stop with the friends and relatives bit. Consider experience a benefit, not a liability.

    Pros

    bright intelligent people
if you are vocal, assertive, and you align yourself with the right people you could have a good future with the company
    benefits are not bad
international company with a lot of rich history

    Cons

cannot trust senior management, although they may be saying one thing, their actions are totally different
very competitive environment so you see a lot of dirty politics
employee recognition practices are not fair. promotions are difficult and given to a select and favoured few.
you'll find bitter and unhappy people throughout the company
actuaries are automatically promoted to at least AVP level (may be seen as a pro if you're an actuary)

    Advice to Management

be open and transparent, focus on developing talent and loyalty to the company, remember the pride values, and try to eminate the practices that dominic left behind.

    Cons

    No salary
Very long sales process (expect no virtually no income for the first year)
Manager conveniently forgets thing at the worse possible moment
lots and lots of cold calling
Culture is dog eat dog --- make sure you follow up on your pay.
If you don't push and ask questions, you get no info
    Propaganda
They don't keep accurate stats on their sales process
