I have been working at Maple Leaf Foods full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pros to work here would only be to get a paycheck till you till you found someplace where you are appreciated and not treated badly. It is all great for awhile not long term.

    Cons

Challenges would be working for the management in the front office. They may be nice to you but you should watch your back. They may act like your best friend but deep down they will turn on you and you will not know what hit you. I see this day to day as I am here. It is even worse now that they got purchased by Grupo Bimbo. No longer a Canadian Company. When it was Maple Leaf it was a good company. I am seeing they are getting rid of people that have been here 7 years and up.

    Advice to Management

    Treat people with respect.

    Pros

Can work same shift everyday rather than 3 different ones (in production line).

    Cons

Lots of yelling and swearing of employees that from managment, especially to minority groups.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with more respect, especially the vulnerable groups. They may not speak English, but that does not mean you should treat them so horribly.

    Pros

Good guys to work with in the shop but that's about it

    Cons

Wearing plastic all the time. Lack of training Horrible pension. High turnover rate in trades. Shop was a joke Never any parts when needed

    Advice to Management

Mid level management other then Ross was a joke. Show the tradesmen proper respect. And they need to rely on the lower management team they had in place

I worked at Maple Leaf Foods full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good salary, benefits and perks. Nice work offices, flexibility to work remotely.

    Cons

Culture of back-stabbing encouraged at all levels. Very cut-throat approach get whatever you want rather than working together for the greater good (ie the benefit of the company) The mantra: every man for himself !

    Advice to Management

Review the company policies on ranking people - it is an exercise in selling your staff rather than developing and rewarding appropriately.

    Pros

The job is not so stressful. Safety is always first.

Mentally your gonna be stressed due to some mind gaming people. Favoritism is in sffect on some shifts.

    Advice to Management

Monitor the attitude of your supervisors in your facilities. Give the small workers their right to speak by giving them the chance to rate the performance of supervisors so that these people won't try to abuse them but instead treat them right to avoid workplace politic due to racism and favoritism.
