I worked at Maple Leaf Foods full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I did not see any pros. Nothing

    Cons

Labour safety - terrible, equipment has no tags, electrical panels, enclosures, operating buttons - no tags, no sealing on electrical equipment. Work orders - lots of mistakes, I had 21 work orders in 4 days! No control from Management, so mechanics has no time to do PM properly, a lot of fraud with work orders. I worked 2 months, Had 3 badges: 1 - to punch time clock, one for enter the company, one to enter the Maintenance shop. 2 months - did not have PPE, uniforms, so need to wash it at home, etc. Complete disorder!Supervisor crying, almost fighting with mechanic, many times. Complete disorder with spare parts.

    Advice to Management

They advertise: world class maintenance, - I am laughing.

I worked at Maple Leaf Foods full-time

    Pros

Many opportunities for those that want to work (Good place to gain a variety of experience)

Being corporate means there is some distance between you and the disaster in manufacturing.

    Cons

The leadership team has no idea what they are doing.

Favoritism means yes men get put into higher positions while competent people who are not get driven out.

Terrible corporate culture and high turnover.

    Advice to Management

You can't throw money at a problem to fix it. The leadership team needs to step up and have a more involved role in fixing manufacturing issues. There needs to a competent and adequately staffed maintenance department to minimize the downtime. Preventative maintenance is key.

"Toxic Workplace Culture created at the leadership level, not a consumer driven marketing organization"

I worked at Maple Leaf Foods full-time

    Pros

-Decent work life balance is possible, especially compared to the Tier 1 CPG companies going through the 3G effect
    - good colleagues at a manager level and below with truly kind people

    Cons

-terrible leadership and workplace culture. Being intentionally mean-spirited and hurtful to colleagues is tolerated and happens on a regular basis.
    - leaders at a VP level and above do not work together. They push their own agenda without aligning with their peers, and have little concern over the challenges and frustrations this causes for those that are tasked to execute.
    - if you are coming straight out of school and want to build a career in brand marketing, this is NOT the place for you. It's impossible for you to get a well rounded, true marketing experience because of how the department is structured.
    - little to no consumer research is done to drive the decisions being made
-way too many cooks in the kitchen and yet no clear accountability and responsibility for functions, resulting in a "not me!" attitude
    - with constant turnover, there is low trust between those at the plant with those at HQ, making for a challenging working relationship.

    Advice to Management

Wasn't planning on leaving a review until I saw what I strongly suspect is an intentionally positive review left by management or HR at the organization trying to improve the image of the company in a month full of resignations. Steps have been taken place to try to improve the organization from a progression and opportunity perspective but until leadership at the top changes and the overall culture shifts on the commercial team, I would not recommend this organization for those working in a commercial function.

Listen to your people. I don't think there is a single person who doesn't want Maple Leaf, a homegrown Canadian company, to succeed. But the industry reputation is there for a reason and it will take a lot more to truly make a difference.

    Pros

busy and high paced; sometimes free food, some good people

    Cons

I worked at Maple Leaf Foods as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lots of different shifts to choose from. Most people and higher ups were pretty awesome. It was pretty easy work as a G.L for the most part

    Cons

They hire and fire temps frequently. Layoffs suck. I was suppose to get hired on but it got slow so they layoff about 70 temps.

    Advice to Management

Nothing, i had a pretty good overall experience there
