    Pros

    Good Colleagues
    Friendly Staff
    Made lifelong Friends

    Cons

Minimal Pay, management don't care about it.
Store standards are low in terms of in store equipment, management don't care.
Staff levels are shockingly low, making weekends impossible to trade, management don't care.
Constant backtracking on company changes, that could have been good but instead fail miserably, management don't care.
    Management just don't care.

    Advice to Management

Start listening to staff. Offering a better Benefits scheme is a good start, but too little too late.
Raise wages, those staff are working soul shattering hours and trying their hardest to make sure every customer is being served to the top standard, their pay doesn't reflect this. People could work in Tesco for double the wage and half the work.
Look after your staff, they'll look after your customers.

I worked at Maplin Electronics part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lovely team to work with, we had a good laugh but still got the workload done.

    Cons

As the only under 18 on £4 an hour, the over eighteens could have pulled their weight more.

    Advice to Management

    Ditch the cringy training videos.

I have been working at Maplin Electronics part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great staff discount
Collegues and senior management are friendly and great to get along with
    Good work life balance
    Good training given to

    Cons

Expecting someone to do way more tasks than they are expected to do on MINIMUM wage is not right
Security is lacklustre. Stores are expected to hit high targets but HO don't do anything to prevent robberies and shoplifters
Late closing times don't help this as this allows opportunists to try their luck.
More staff needed on shop floor to act a deterrent.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in security on stores whether through extra staff or tags on products.
Increase pay for staff that do a lot more than they are expected to do!

I worked at Maplin Electronics part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Met some real good friends.

    Cons

Minimum wage for above-minimum wage work. Unfair promotions based on personal relationships rather than skills and experience. This, along with the fact that 95% of sales advisers are on part-time contracts means that for anybody who wants a career, this place can be extremely hard, and harsh on morale. Worked in a few stores, and this was the case in 80% of them. No technical training whatsoever, thus the advice from members of staff to customers is often incorrect. Puts a burden on people who do have technical knowledge, as they have to train the sales staff themselves. Management are mostly clueless, as well. Sales are pressured, to a ridiculous amount. If a customer doesn't buy something, its because you aren't asking the right questions, not because Maplin sell their products for five times the cost of everywhere else. I have seen a lot of people waste their lives here.

    Advice to Management

Unfair promotions + part time contracts for everybody + pressure on sales + ridiculous product prices + no technical/product training = a horrible place to work

I worked at Maplin Electronics part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent oppertunity for devleoping knowledge on electronics

Target driven within a team of friendly staff and a wok culture like no other

Space to prove yourself in terms of being a sales person and deomstrating willingness to succeed

    Cons

Often expected to do more than your job role

    Sometimes difficult to hit targets

Though the role is not commision based, more rewards should be given to people
who continuously hit targets rather than having extremely unfair bonus system.

Colleage of the period award useless in determining sales and progress within employees. Rather than rewarding experienced and hard working sales people for hitting targets and doing a great job by measuring their sales targets and attitude to work, they are measure by the opinions of others which leads to favouritism and rewarding colleagues who do not strive to be succeed leaving others who do, without praise.

    Advice to Management

Management overall is great yet some tweaks definitely need to be made in terms of measuring success. Training and development programs were mediocre at best and a lot of what was expected by new colleagues was not feasible resulting in people wanting to leave and being 'pushed out'
