Great place to work!
Jun 11, 2014 - Anonymous Employee in Houston, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Succession planning, integrity & values, family-like workplace, not a big fish in a small pond and of course the wonderful 9/80 flex schedule!
Cons
Retention and hiring good talent in a competitive Houston O&G market.

Pros
Work/Life Balance is the best reason to work for Marathon Oil Company. The company's location, culture, perks, and flexible 9/80 work schedule are wonderful as well.
Cons
Pay does not reflect experience in a lot of areas. Many are underpaid, while many are overpaid. Reward and Recognition for good employees is lacking. Low performers are not reprimanded. Many low-level managers hired externally have less experience than their direct reports.

Pros
Great work life balance with 9/80 flexible schedule, gym, 401, etc.. Senior staff is allways willing to help. No massive layoffs even in the bad times.
Cons
Stratigical direction of the comany isn't quite clear. The only constant thing is a new supervisor every year or even six months. Poor manegement of low or high performers. Whater you do, you get about the same..

Pros
Great people; have had a lot of turnover though so I am not sure of current management. The corporate office has 9/80 scheduling and a nice gym. I had plenty of projects to keep me busy.
Cons
Oil prices have had an impact on the industry; IT was slow to adapt new technology but started to change that at the end of my tenure.

Administrative Assistant
Sep 30, 2018 - Administrative Assistant in Houston, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Salary better than other company for position (not competitors though) 9/80 Flex schedule
Cons
Does not honor or follow its "values" Forces competition with peers in order to keep job, therefore ruining "collaboration" effort Performance ratings based on competition among others with similar job titles, often times across multiple departments Representing managers of your review are done by managers who don't know what you do or who you are Multiple layoffs combined with peer competition created fear of job loss Layoffs left remaining employees doing work of multiple employees with no extra pay or bonus Merits based on favoritism not performance

Pros
Good pay and benefits package. 9/80 Flex schedule is nice. Most recent manager was outstanding and a pleasure to work with.
Cons
High stress environment, constantly having to jump through hoops to prove value/worth to the company. Currently no growth opportunities for geosciences. Strong disconnect between culture experienced as intern and culture experienced as full-time employee.
