Pros
*Opportunities to move locations if desired *7% matching thrift plan *Generous bonuses *Great work/life balance *9/80 Flex schedule in Houston (unavailable in field locations, but 6 bonus "flex days" are provided instead) *Safety is truly a priority and practiced, not just preached *Many employees delay retirement because they enjoy their jobs, not for monetary reasons *Free snacks and beverages in the office for employees *Good training program, with travel to classes (Houston, Orlando, Calgary, Ohio, Las Vegas, etc.)
Cons
*Poor performers are just shuffled around instead of let go *Performance review process is heavily political, promotions often based on service time instead of performance- but not always *Communication/cooperation between different locations somewhat lacking

Great if you want to move up the ladder but be wary of the compensation package compared to the rest of the industry
RecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great for employees. They focus on people but do not necessarily pay the most or offer the best benefits when compared to the rest of the industry. They are however willing to move you up quickly if you are willing to move around. The management relies on the engineers who actually run the process and generally take their considerations and opinions as expert opinions in the field. Since the engineer runs the process at the time they are considered the authority for the unit and their knowledge is valuable when considering projects to complete or upgrades to implement in the field.
Cons
Low pay/benefits. Compared to other companies in the oil/gas refinery industry, Marathon has a much lower salary. An engineer at a competing company can make up to 25-30 percent more than the same engineer at Marathon. Have to move around to move up the ladder. For example, an engineer who wants to move up to management must eventually move from refinery to refinery in order to move up the technical or managerial ladder because there are so few employees relatively speaking to others in the industry that you must move around because people in the same refinery do not move as much.

Pros
Now retired but while there the teamwork was outstanding. Work/life balance was perfect. I worked for them for 16 years and loved my time there - every day.
Cons
"Reorganizations" are the norm. At least 2 or 3 in the past year. My remaining colleagues are on pins and needles not knowing when the next shoe will drop....

Pros
Benefits and compensation are really pretty good. There are good people there at the field level which make work enjoyable.
Cons
Poor leadership. No professional guidance or development path. Management not concerned about well being of field engineers. Common advice is to keep your head down and don't make any noise.
