I have been working at Marathon Oil full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Aiming at a collaborative, innovative culture.

Has simplified its portfolio and now focus on operations in the resource plays where it should be!

    Cons

Only come here if you are up for the challenge of working in a changing organization. It isn't for everyone, but if you are ready the opportunities are here.

    Advice to Management

Keep talking to your teams and be as open and honest as you can be - they can take it.

I worked at Marathon Oil full-time

    Pros

Nice people. Collaborative environment. It offers all the perks that come along with working for a large company. Great annual bonuses.

    Cons

Can be long hours. You have to be able to able to handle a certain amount of stress. Just like in most large companies, you are going to have many bosses and at times question your impact to the company's success

    Advice to Management

You are what you are...a big oil company. I would continue to recognize and reward the young talent because they will one day be the innovators who keep you in business.

I have been working at Marathon Oil full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible working hours, 26 Flex days a year, inclusive work environment. After the recent downturn the company is quite young with a lot of opportunity. Family friendly work environment. Excellent benefit packages to choose from for medical coverage. Company match is 7% each pay period. Great community involvement and work sponsored volunteer opportunities.

    Cons

The youthfulness of the company creates some hesitation in decision making an second guessing requiring extra work to arrive at the same conclusions. With the outsourcing of accounting functions key documents for review are unavailable or non-existent. Forced ranking by grade during annual review period of all personnel company wide regardless of specific job duties. The number in one review class was above ninety individuals which in no way could adequately represent the various value of work done by each when mixed in one group.

    Advice to Management

If people are the company's greatest asset they are hardly represented fairly when herded into a single group for recognition. It's sad but an employee can learn more about the current company situation from articles published outside the company than the informal coffee bar sessions with various members of management teams.

I have been working at Marathon Oil full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They're coming out of the downturn as a different company. There's opportunity here, if you want it - you'll get what you work for, and the only limit to how far you can go is you. 9/80s are great, and so are vacation and benefits.

    Cons

It's a work-intensive environment, as most independent E&Ps are. If you're looking for a 9 to 4:30, and want to be told exactly what to do, this isn't the place for you.
