I have been working at Marathon Petroleum full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Strong company financially, co-workers are great, good compensation and benefits considering you are located in Findlay, OH. If HQ was in a larger city, I think there would be more competition with other companies for better salary and benefits.

    Cons

Not very forward thinking, not a good work-life balance, not flexible with work schedule (working from home or adjusting work schedule), a lot of the personnel have been with the company their entire career and no nothing else. They think Marathon is the "end all be all" and in reality, the company is a small fish in the sea.

    Advice to Management

Need to be be more progressive, practice what you preach (diversity and inclusion).

    Pros

Job stability. A leader in oil and gas. Great people to work with. Takes effort to cultivate an emvironment of diversity and safety.

    Cons

The fumes from the process can be overwhelming. Hourly worker issues sometimes seem to fall on deaf ears. The pension arrangement. Is in very dire straits.

    Pros

    Cons

Never get a raise or vacation

    Advice to Management

It's a good place to work but local owners that carry the marathon name should pay right and give raises and vacations

I worked at Marathon Petroleum full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This job enables you to operate with lots of responsibility and authority, and is a really impressive resume builder. The department is full of really intelligent, motivated, inspiring people to work with/for, and the environment is surprisingly collaborative and team-focused. And the work that you do really does matter.

    Cons

Throw work/life balance out the window in this department; you'll be expected to work weekends if needed, 14 hours days with no flex time, and (in some positions) 12-hour days 7 days a week for weeks at a time. And management will remember if you say "no" to any of the above. You'll also bend over backwards for your stakeholders and your project portfolio, but consider yourself lucky if you even get so much as a pat on the back.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to pick a lane: either show some gratitude when you work your employees into the ground, or give them the latitude to recover and allow for a better flex time policy.

I have been working at Marathon Petroleum as an intern

    Pros

Marathon pays their interns well and gives them a lot of opportunity to prove themselves.

    Cons

Their is a lack of communication between departments/groups, especially between engineering and construction.

    Advice to Management

    Communication is key.

I worked at Marathon Petroleum (Less than a year)

    Pros

I think it is good how they take safety so seriously to prevent accidents and also keep their employees healthy and safe. It is a big campus. Marathon has 2 refineries in Texas City. One which used to be owned by BP. This is the largest refinery there. The goal now is to get these two refineries in sync, since BP had their own processes, applications, networks, etc.

    Cons

Lack of communication, especially regarding expectations from you as an employee.
