I worked at Marathon Petroleum (Less than a year)

    Pros

I think it is good how they take safety so seriously to prevent accidents and also keep their employees healthy and safe. It is a big campus. Marathon has 2 refineries in Texas City. One which used to be owned by BP. This is the largest refinery there. The goal now is to get these two refineries in sync, since BP had their own processes, applications, networks, etc.

    Cons

Lack of communication, especially regarding expectations from you as an employee.

I have been working at Marathon Petroleum full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits are good. Vacation, sick time and health insurance are all decent. They even match 401k up to 7 percent.

    Cons

I feel as though safety is not a priority. Production and cost cutting is the major concern for this company.

    Advice to Management

Moral goes a long way. You can poke and poke at employees all you want but if you are nice to them they will want to do a good job for you.

    Cons

Findlay, Ohio is a very vanilla, small-town, rust-belt USA kinda place. Not a lot going on there. Think Butte, Montana without the histoy, culture or geography.

I worked at Marathon Petroleum (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Training of the refinery is excellent.

    Cons

Never work there as an contractor.

    Advice to Management

Do the right thing without being mandated or govern by laws. Far too many people are in supervisory roles with little or no skills to lead effectively.

I worked at Marathon Petroleum full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The Pay. That was about it

    Cons

    Competing daily for your job.
Once Management decided they didn't like you, you were guaranteed to be gone.
    Micromanaged all the time.
Actually threatened with physical violence and HR managed to victim blame and basically say I was a hysterical, over-exaggerating, drama starting woman.
No home life--worked three months straight without a day off.
Your coworkers will stab you in the back the first chance that they get--no one is your friend there.
Fire you under false allegations so you can't come back and sue them. My firing was a direct retaliation from the physical violence investigation.

    Advice to Management

Grow a spine and actually DO something about the problems brought up to you, don't get rid of the whistleblower because it's the easiest route.

Replace key leadership roles that are filled with lagging thought leaders
