I have been working at Marbles the brain store part-time

    Pros

Free stuff occasionally but no good games. No friendly staff

    Cons

They couldn't work out how you run a company after voting out old CEO. New CEO is a complete moron

I worked at Marbles the brain store full-time

    Pros

Great coworkers. Flexible scheduling (most of the time). The community is great even though the business side is frustrating. The higher ups are all nice people but they have some areas of improvement.

    Cons

There's a major disconnect between on the salesfloor Brain coaches and those in offices up the ladder. Training is not consistent which hurts seasoned employees that spend time answering questions of new BCs. New BCs don't know what they have the power to do or not do so they appear as if they aren't learning. Several times the money grab is put over customer needs. Being asked to sell a set number of big ticket items...

    Advice to Management

You have forgotten that people love Marbles for the different style we use to sell. We're a specialty store that won't necessarily sell in the sane way as a clothing store. Respect your brain coaches and don't take hard workers for granted. Spend the money and time reading so you don't spend it on a revolving door of new hires. Pay good people well. Give them raises when you give them more responsibilities. Stop dangling...

I worked at Marbles the brain store full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Awesome customers and truly one of the more fun retail situations to work at. Generally speaking all the staff were incredibly intelligent. Since the store focuses on brain health, most of the employees that were hired (myself included) had Bachelors or Masters Degrees in fields like neuroscience, cognition, anthropology and the like.

    Cons

Because everything is hands on, the customers demanded a much higher level of service but seldom bought anything. Often times unrealistic sales goals were set. As mentioned in the pros, most staff have advanced degrees in complex fields. This was a con for us as employees, because we all would have preferred to work in our field of study but lack of jobs in those fields forced us to work retail. The management are aware...

    Advice to Management

Pay staff realistic wages. I was in a major city and often times didn't have enough to eat, despite working 40+ hours a week.

I worked at Marbles the brain store part-time

    Pros

Co-workers are nice and the stores are welcoming.

    Cons

Management uses employees and treat them terribly. They see one small mistake be done and fire you.

    Advice to Management

Stop blaming things on others. Train your staff properly and don't throw people under the bus for little mistakes. Care more for your employees.

  7. "Fun for retail"

    StarStarStarStarStar
      Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at Marbles the brain store part-time

      Pros

Learn new products frequently, products are engaging and generally high quality. Attracts pleasant customers and other staff who are engaging. Low drama work environment.

      Cons

Sometimes upper management makes strange decisions or decisions that seem to be unaware of in-store challenges. Sometimes corners are cut on retail environment costs like flooring or display boxes. Sometimes products are boring or overpriced.

      Advice to Management

Be more in tune with the realities of day to day store operations. For example, allowing managers more hours for floorset changes and giving more advanced notice on them.

I have been working at Marbles the brain store part-time for more than a year

        Pros

There are cool products. In my particular store, hours are flexible, but that might only be because I have a great, understanding manager. Focus was on matching customers to products they would like, as well as playing games all day to demo them to customers.

        Cons

Since the company made a bunch of changes (many of the original founders of the company have left in the year that I've been here), the company has gone seriously downhill. We're expected to have high conversion rates (number of people who come into the store vs. how many of them buy), high units per transaction, high overall transactions, and on top of it all make goal. If you have an excellent day but don't necessarily...

        Advice to Management

Be in our shoes for a moment. We're not selling automatons, we're people who are trying our hardest. Visit our stores and work there to see what it's really like. Many of us have been in retail for ages, and know how to push and pull with customers to get them to buy. But pushing customers to sell despite how many times they say no alienates both new and returning customers, not to mention it feels more like harassment...
