I have been working at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Working with skilled staff in state of the art facility to provide multidisciplinary care with plenty of growth opportunities.

    Cons

Recent acquisition by Northwestern Medical, while further increasing professional growth opportunities, has resulted in rapid growth of caseload and inequitable rate of hiring staff. This, along with poor documentation system, results in long hours to ensure professional documentation of care.

    Advice to Management

Make the move to Epic sooner rather than later.
Get speech services in the TCNN. Neuroplasticity tools have been requested but action was stalled by change in Psychology staff.

    Pros

Outstanding place for everyone - patients, employees, and people like myself, a student.

    Cons

The paperwork part seems frustrating to some employees, but I bet that is true everywhere.

    Advice to Management

Hopefully new relationship with Northwestern won't affect quality of care and personal feeling.

I have been working at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

It is a smaller facility that gives a sense of family & unity. You get to work with your patients for a longer period of time, 2 weeks minimum, & have time to build ups relationship with them & their care. The campus and facility are both very beautiful.

    Cons

There are only 8 hour shifts offered: no 12 hour ones. The range of exposure to different types of nursing skills are available, but very limited.

    Advice to Management

You need to develop a better system of managing the nursing staff's requests for time off. Since the previous scheduler left the position, things have been handled in an unsatisfactory manner. Although it is a great place to work, this could be a factor driving staff to seek employment elsewhere.

    Pros

The people are all very helpful, a lot of clinical experience. The hospital has a new feel to it, it was just bought out by northwestern!

    Cons

Staffing can be an issue. Sometimes they are short and will ask you to work doubles.

    Advice to Management

Hire more employees to cover for the lack of people. Other than that it's wonderful! No issues!

I worked at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Family feel, easy to learn the management, friendly people.
Management encourage growth and puts in effort to have you learn new skill sets.

    Cons

Outdated technology, and outdated practices. While the management does encourage growth there is not much growth opportunities. Very flat and mellow environment does not promote change.

    Advice to Management

Encourage more intense training. Allow and give your employees more responsibility to take ownership and pride in their company. Also be more intentional with the workers to make them feel like they are growing professionally.
